but if its crusing a residential neighborhood and you don't have a tranq gun what else can you do?

Shoot all the schoolkids.

They're high in cholesterol, doncha know, and that could lead to heart disease if the cat ate too many of them.

Me too. A few years ago I shot a Vietnamese pot bellied pig someone had obviously put out in my subdivision. Now this ole Georgia boy don't cotton to no animal tearing up my expensive Zoysia sod. Animal control had their chance and blew it. The boss of animal control told me " Well I'd shoot that Damn pig but just sure as I did a neighbor would call Channel 5 and I'd lose my job." I said don't worry about it Bill I'll take care of it. 22 cal. scope right between the eyes. Pig never knew what hit him. The funny thing was two days later the headline on page three said " Fayette Pig Tail Ends In Death." But here, even tho the county Marshal, animal control and a county commissioner knew who the killer was, nobody gave me up.
I have been to downtown Palo Alto and up and down El Camino Real. There's a Hell of alot people around there and you can bet when that cat got hungry somebody would have been dinner. Really stupid people but that Stanford Prof blew my mind.

same here

Meanwhile, the Palo Alto Daily News headlined Wednesday's paper with "Lion's Killing Sparks Furor." It included a picture of flowers and written tributes left at the base of the tree, including this eulogy: "Your death will not be in vain. Tears are shed for you, and this brutality will inspire ACTION. You are loved."

Not a flame, but I would point out that until recent years, people were usually armed when they encountered a cougar. This is why the cougar population was low, and why the killing and mauling were rare.

We need to make terrorists an endangered species.

NOTE TO EULOGY WRITERS: Mountain lions cannot read, even when dead!

ROFL!

I would say this is "unbelievable", but unfortunately, it is very believable.

After all, this is the Bay Area.
