I plan on linking for the length of the summit, and if there is anything worth mentioning afterwords, I'll post it here. We just had a raft of law-enforcement cars zip by- my guess is they are going to Lanier field, which was being barracaded earlier, and is adjacent to the St. Simons causeway.

I've been trough there several times by boat and driven out to the island once. There's no way they're going to get to the island by road, so if they head in to the backwater they're going to get lost.

Then again, a guy in a skiff could make a couple of bucks dropping them off at the wrong island.

I love the deviousness behind that idea... if I were a little younger, I'd be sore tempted...

I am no going to get specific; for security reasons. Things are beginning to heat up here. There have been "situations" in Brunswick most of the day. There have been a few very obvious "situations" that have been very labor intensive, and will probably have a very tiring effect on those providing area security. If these obvious situations keep poppong up, I will tend to believe that someone is being somewhat methodical in wearing down the resources prior to tha actual event.

We are getting up to 30 carloads of law enforcement officers from most of the counties in Geoprgia that have personel to spare. Jekyll Island is literally covered with off-shift law enforcement, as well as military and State Patrol. School busses have been appropriated from loacl school systems, as well as other school systems in the state. It would appear that they are dual purpose; transporting different security shift personel on and off site enmasse, as well as available transport for detainees. There have been a number of areas set aside for detainee holding and processing. Due to the current action in Iraq, there is a shortage of US snipers. Brunswickj is now being protected by Russian Snipers. Other nationality snipers are diapatched among the Golden Isles. I can just imagine what is going on in Savannah now.

Coast Guard has boats in the water 24 hours, monitoring every creek opening and bridge tha could possibly provide access to any vital area. DNR has set up a repeater and is quite active with radio traffice outlining their activities. I have spotted 2 GBI Bomb Disposal units, and without being too specific, at least one of them has seen some duty and detonation service in the past 18 hours. I think I got video of a US Mail truck getting the under chassis mirror inspection entering one of the motel complexes on Jekyll that was housing some of the additional law enforcement officers. On Jekyll, it is impossible to be further than 3 cars away from a State Patrol vehicle, unless you are in your garage.

The Coast Guard has had at least one Network News team out on the water today, and a few of the local citizens are experiencing the loss of personal video equipment. If you decide to film, don't tarry, and don't persist if asked to stop. Again, we are basically under Martial Lay, since the governor declared a State of Emergency. It is of no use arguing Civil Rights violation.

The intersection of Frederica Road and Sea Island causeway is set up to be the drop-dead stopping point for any protestors that get that far. The Sea Island side has wire mesh protected passage ways to go from their staging area to the intersection. The Brunswick side of the intersection only has wire mesh barriers (around 7 feet tall) that will probably serve to prevent damage from flying objects. I can only guess.

At night, a ride up US 17 from I95 exit 29 toward the St Simons Causeway gives a wonderful Blue Light show. The Coast Guard boats on the water are often using Blue Lights, there are Police cars on US 17 at both ends of the approach (North and SOuth to the causeway, and there are military personel manning the detour to the inspection/scanning station that all commercial traffic entering St Simons island must pass through. Additionally the intersection where traffic from US 341 gets to US 17 has at least 3 law enforcement vehicles.

Local Trunk Tracking traffic is nearly non-stop, as there has been an increase of talkgroups that must be over 200%. In addition, there is quite a buit of APC25 encoded digital traffic that I can't afford the gear to monitor. I am keeping 4 trunk trackers on, a scanner devoted to Marine Service VHF, and a few more with various frequencies.

Gotta go, excuse the spelling and grammar. Now have a string of 5 blue light specials on US 17 in front of the house. Need to check it out. They are maintaining radio silence. Need visual.

About 8:45 tonight coming in from Exit 29, there were various other city (not local) cops stationed at most intersections all the way to the Sidney Lanier Bridge. Coming down the bridge I saw 20-30 GSP's in a row, they came out from back behind the old B&W boiler plant and pulled out onto US 17 and headed on north.

As I headed across the causeway after coming home tonight from a long trip. I figured it would be better to have my pistol (in a holster), but sitting out on the seat, rather than hidden away in the luggage. My thoughts being, if they decided to search my vehicle, I didn't think it would go over to well if they found a pistol hidden.

Things were going fine at the checkpoint, then the DMVS saw the pistol. Asked if I had a license "yes" and gave him my CCW Permit. He then asked a national guardsman to open my passenger door and take the pistol. then told me to go park under the tent while they checked out my truck, The Secret Service guy wanted to know where i worked, and why i felt I needed to carry a gun. I wanted to say "because the constitution says I can" but I told him that it was because i was coming home from a long trip (from Mississippi, alone, felt i needed protection) They worked my truck over w/ 3-4 national guards and one dog. Heard them call in my Serial # on my Taurus 9mm.

Finally about 10 mins later, they decided to let me go. but told me to get in my truck, and then they'd give me the pistol, but not to put the clip back in it, and to go straight home and put it away. Then he decided it would be better locked under my tonneau cover than letting me have it in the cab, and told me to open my hard tonneau back up so they could stick it in my truck bed.

I guess if I didn't have a permit to carry, and hid it away in my luggage, i woulda been waved right thru, but since I was lawful, open and honest, I got the hassle!
