WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Two journalists, including NBC's Tim Russert, have been subpoenaed by the Justice Department in the investigation into who leaked the name of a covert CIA operative, according to the journalists' media outlets.

Russert, host of NBC's "Meet the Press," and Time Magazine columnist Mathew Cooper received subpoenas from investigators trying to learn who disclosed the identity of Valerie Plame, wife of former U.S. diplomat Joseph Wilson.

IIRC, the Cooper fellow is married to DNC shill Mandy Grunwald (sp?). Hmmmm. I wonder who his contact would be in the administration. This could get interesting...

I thought the headline said that journalists were supoenaed. All I see listed here are a couple of liberal hacks.

I was wondering about that, too. Perhaps he already had been? I haven't followed this story terribly closely. Wilson bores me to tears.

If Novak wanted to protect his sources he shouldn't have described them as high administration officials. The press shouldn't be able to have it both ways; refuse to disclose sources, but make factual statements about those sources that can't be verified without disclosure. It's the equivalent of a journalist's right to lie with impunity.
