It's only spectacular if they do not back down and I admit to being a skeptic on that point.

They can get out of this without even turning a hair....

"Too bad, so sad! I'll move there after you move out. Sounds like my kind of state!"

Come on over, we could use a few more Freepers!

Noisy buggers, aren't they?

Tell me about it. The air conditioner failed, so I had the windows open. The 1950's flying-saucer-movie noise was everywhere, but there was also a periodic EEEeeeowww noise that started out like a mechanical buzz and tapered off like a howling cat. I could not figure out what that was, until one of the damned things took up residence on the screen of my window.

EEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOWWWWW.

Oh. So the 'flying saucer' noise is really ten million eeeeooows going on simultaneously. They're ugly, too.

"Gays and lesbians are angry and even threatening to leave the state ..." Must be a reasonable law to limit the empowerment of degenerates. I wonder how we can get such laws in Tennessee so the degenerates will leave our state? Massatwosh!ts will welcome the degenerates. Fill that liberal cesspool up.

"the 'flying saucer' noise"

More specifically, it's the sound of the Martian ships in "War of the Worlds".

Thank heaven somebody else made the connection...I was starting to worry about myself....;))

Guess you must have flunked out of law school. An agreement between two parties is only a contract at law subject to very specific conditions, which condtions vary BY JURISDICTION.

Contract Law 101: A contract is only valid and enforceable when the jurisdiction under which the contract has been entered AFFIRMS its validity.

Don't take my word for it; ask your personal attorney. Now, any other ''questions'' about ''legal'' contracts between two adults? How about the ''legality'' of two adults formally contracting, in writing, with consideration deemed appropriate on both sides (what?!? you never heard of ''consideration''? wow!), that one sodomise the other at high noon on June 1st on the Capitol steps in Richmond? Is this a contract that is valid and enforceable at law, hotshot?

I'd wager 98-99% of FReepers get the answer to that Q correctly, never mind legal training on their part or not. And I'd even be tempted to make a small wager, two actually: 1) that you won't respond to this post, and if you do, your response will re-betray your pissanthood, and you will whine throughout about state ''interference'' with private contracts, and 2) your response won't have any coherent comment about real-world contract law, its administration, its enforcement, or its underlying premises.

Send for the WAHHHHmbulance, queen.

That would, of course, be -- per your handle -- ellery queen.

Yep, I remember the last cicada invasion oh so many years ago. Luckily, we managed to miss the majority of them down here in Tidewater but I still hear them as I drive by on my way to Aberdeen.

(As a kid in NC, we used to collect and trade their shells with each other. Who needed Yu-Gi-Oh when you had cicadas?)

If Virginia had the guts to change their motto thus, I'd spend every vacation dollar I've got over the next decade vacationing there only.

Hey, the NAACP is still boycotting SC because of our confederate war memorial...come on down.

Wow, that's some serious animosity to my pretty benign question. My question was more related to WHY Virginia would bother -- not whether the Commonwealth has a right to do so. But hey, if it puffs you up to set up straw men and knock them down via the Internet, feel free.
