Mayor Daley scolded Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry Tuesday for making a wisecrack about the bicycle accident that scraped the face, hands and knees of President Bush.
According to the Drudge Report, Kerry was having a conversation with reporters that he apparently believed was off the record when he reportedly asked, "Did the training wheels fall off?"
Daley, who ripped the skin off his kneecap during a bicycle accident a few years ago, said the joke was disrespectful. "When someone falls . . . you should not wish ill upon anyone. It's not right. . . . You just don't do that. Let's have some respect for one another."
To Daley, Kerry's remark symbolized a hate-filled brand of politics the mayor has long despised.
"The thing I worry about in politics is all of these people hating one another [saying], 'I hate Kerry', 'I hate Bush.' I wish the former presidents -- Carter and Ford and Clinton and Bush -- would all get up and tell people, 'You may support candidates, but don't hate the other candidate.'
"You see too much hate. And I'll tell you one thing -- hate will turn on people. . . . When hate gets in politics, it's a very, very dangerous aspect."
Better yet, Clinton and Carter could take a page from the class acts of Ford and Bush and just remain silent
You're attributing way too much to it.
Daley is 100% right, glad someone like him has the sense to say it.
The NERVE of this man! He fell off a bike himself and recently!
Guess his training wheels fell off too!
Jerk!
I am amazed this comment came from a dem
After all, Daley has the power to make dead people rise and then vote. That power is not to be trifled with.
Has everyone forgotten when John fell off of his sbowboard, and blamed the secret service. Remeber he fell off of his $5000.00 Serotta bicycle ?
Whadda fraud, phony and charlatan.
But when Kerry fell, it was the Secret Service guy's fault.
Dang! Something I agree with Mayor Daley on! Wonders never cease!
Semper Fi
This is the second time Daley has chastised Kerry...Im trying to remember the first incident.....me thinks Daley does not like Kerry.
$6000 road bikes do not typically come with training wheels.
My problem with Kerry's comment is that he's stealing a joke which just recently used him as the butt. The picture of a cycling Kerry (remember the banana suit?) had been doctored to show training wheels. This picture was widely circulated on the 'net.
Now, Kerry gets his chance at a quick jab and all he can do is recycle the idea of training wheels? The man is pathetic. If he had come up with the training wheel quip on his own, I might think it was slightly humorous (if painful as a W supporter). Instead, he just proves he's a pretender in all walks of life.
Then he can claim that he never threw the bike over the fence, just the pedals or the seat or the charge slip for buying it, not the bike, you didn't see that. Who are you gonna believe, Kerry or your own lying eyes?-
THE MACHINE HAS SPOKEN!!
You know.... I'm becoming convinced that in many ways Iraq is ahead of us, and where we are going. That country is disfunctional because of the deep hatred between different groups... like kurds and sheites.... I really think that is where we are headed.
Has anyone (other than perhaps Kerry's ex-wife) ever been heard to say 'I hate Kerry'???
Kerry is too much of a nothing to be hated.
All the real hate goin' on out there is directed against President Bush, not Kerry. Daley is trying for some moral equivalence that ain't there.
"Da Mare" is actually a bike guy. He wants to close Lake Shore Drive on Sunday mornings for the bicyclists. I think it's a pre-emptive strike in case he ever falls of his bike.
Even the Dems don't like Kerry as a person. Kerry's immature comments made about President Bush show everyone what a small man Kerry really is. He is an embarassment even to the Democrats everytime he opens his mouth. This is why he is the "presumptive presidential nominee" of the Democratic party. They are all hoping and praying someone else will come along that is better for them. How pathetic.
Actually, the more he open his mouth, the more fuel spits out.
In Sacramento with Campy Groupo and yellow forks, yellow frame cosmetics
In Boston with Shimano Equipped all red frame and noticeably different geometry
I wonder how many of these things Tah-REEEZ-AH bought him?
Yep.... and then screaming about the Bush camp running attack ads on television. Talk about hypocritical!
It is just his eccentricities acting up again. Nothing will stop him from voting for Kerry.
The only thing that comes to mind is when Bush 41 said something about his dog knowing more about foreign policy than those two bozos (in reference to Clinton and Gore).
But Reagan? Never. And I can't think of anything from Ford either. Bush 43 has been extremely respectful of his opponents - except for a certain Clymer.
All to often I hear news reports that address the abundance of attack ads used in this political season by BOTH parties. I don't see how pointing out Kerry's voting record constitutes an attack ad, yet even Fox News uses "attack" in their descriptions.
Another off the record stupid remark. Tell me this guy can't possibly win in November.
He can store them on his brand new aero-plane now. Maybe he can even get his keepers to strong arm some poor sheeple in to doing matching paint jobs for the plane and the sports equipment.
No...it seems his "butler" has to run alongside when Kerry rides...apparently one of the Secret Service agents crossed the butler and he had to let go...it wasn't Kerry's fault, but the SOB Secret Service agents again!
They are all (R)'s, y'know....Queen Cankle said so!
The EIB Photo Montage shows sKerry on his $6000 road bike with the following accessories:
-Gucci wicker bike basket
-DuPont "Purple Heart Purple" paint job
-a set of Pirelli 55/60-8 performance training wheel tires mounted on Lamborghini Cycling wheels
-Lewinski kneepads
Kerry is too much of a nothing to be hated.
I hate nothing....
Mandatatory Anger Management and Sensitivity Training, and perhaps Community Service in the Emergency Room.
That should make Senator Kerry a more caring person.
"All the real hate goin' on out there is directed against President Bush"
You are absolutely correct. Much of Kerry's potential voters are not people who particularly like Kerry, rather they HATE Bush. What a way to pick a candidate. Though for the record, I hate Kerry, not the reason I'm not going to vote for him however.
Richard Daley opining on politics - I interpret this as meaning: "Hate is raw emotion which can be difficult to control & manipulate to your political favor - graft & corruption is a much more reliable & precise way to control political outcomes."
Kerry always goes too far when he talks about W. President Bush took office and before he even spent the night in the White House, his plate was full of garbage that Clinton left for him. This first four years has been nothing but clean up and do what Clinton didn't do for eight years. Bush doesn't blame, and doesn't cast slams. He stepped up to the plate for Americans, and did what he had to in the quest of keeping our country safe. Had he done otherwise, we would be fighting this war in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.
Even the NY Sun conveniently left out kerry's mean spirited comments about the training wheels falling off President Bush's bike. Printed only that he said, I hope he's okay.
Daley wants Hillary in.
Jezzuz, don't these over paid politicos have anything better to do?
If a bawl baby is buying one, they are standard equipment.
It's pretty telling that the only politically "prominent figure" who is actually making more than a token effort is blowhard Teddy. Awfully bad when the mere mention of your chief supporter's name causes sane people to break out into laughter and derision.
Repeat after me: "Whatever the Democrats accuse you of, that's what they're actually doing."
Actually, I heard today that John Kerry is a pretty funny joke all by itself.
"You see too much hate. And I'll tell you one thing -- hate will turn on people. . . . When hate gets in politics, it's a very, very dangerous aspect."
This is certainly one thing I find very tiresome. "I hate Bush/Hillary/Kerry/Rumsfeld, etc." It's childish to get personal. On the other hand, it is more fun.
