Saddam's Files New evidence of a link between Iraq and al Qaeda.
Opinioon Journal ^ | May 27, 2004

Posted on 05/26/2004 9:23:04 PM PDT by Kaslin

One thing we've learned about Iraq since the fall of Saddam Hussein is that the former dictator was a diligent record keeper. Coalition forces have found--literally--millions of documents. These papers are still being sorted, translated and absorbed, but they are already turning up new facts about Saddam's links to terrorism.

We realize that even raising this subject now is politically incorrect. It is an article of faith among war opponents that there were no links whatsoever--that "secular" Saddam and fundamentalist Islamic terrorists didn't mix. But John Ashcroft's press conference yesterday reminds us that the terror threat remains, and it seems especially irresponsible for journalists not to be open to new evidence. If the CIA was wrong about WMD, couldn't it have also missed Saddam's terror links?

It won't matter...the biased media will never cover it anyway...we could turn up an anthrax lad, 400 tons of Sarin and Dan Rather would say that Bush planted it there.

Not only that, but it seems there is a connection between Saddam and planning 9-11.

"One striking bit of new evidence is that the name Ahmed Hikmat Shakir appears on three captured rosters of officers in Saddam Fedayeen, the elite paramilitary group run by Saddam's son Uday and entrusted with doing much of the regime's dirty work. Our government sources, who have seen translations of the documents, say Shakir is listed with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.

This matters because if Shakir was an officer in the Fedayeen, it would establish a direct link between Iraq and the al Qaeda operatives who planned 9/11. Shakir was present at the January 2000 al Qaeda "summit" in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at which the 9/11 attacks were planned. The U.S. has never been sure whether he was there on behalf of the Iraqi regime or whether he was an Iraqi Islamicist who hooked up with al Qaeda on his own.

O'Reilly had some good talking points the other day about the connection between Iraq and Al aeda.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,120964,00.html

"Salman Pak is located 15 miles southwest of Baghdad. It was here that Saddam Hussein trained terrorists. Both Iraqi and non-Iraqi Arabs learned how to hijack airlines, make and plant bombs, and stage assassinations, among other things. According to Saba Khodada (ph), a terrorist instructor at Salman Pak who worked for Saddam, the camp was run by an international terrorist called "the ghost", who has yet to be identified. When the Marines raided the camp last spring, they found vats of industrial chemicals, manuals on how to fool U.N. weapons inspectors, and mass graves. They also found a passenger jet.

Here's another question for you. How much do you know about Abu Musab al-Zarqawi? He's a 37-year-old Jordanian terrorist who was wounded in Afghanistan while fighting for the Taliban. He was shipped to Baghdad, where his leg was amputated. He has direct ties to al Qaeda and is believed to have executed American Nicholas Berg.

So let's connect some dots here. Bin Laden will murder any way he can. That's a given. Saddam was training terrorists and helped top Al Qaeda-linked guy Zarqawi, who continues to kill Americans. That's what President Bush should have told the nation last night because those facts are solid and have a direct meaning to us all.

All Americans should wake up and wise up. Terror is terror. We must defeat it totally. Retreat is not an option. "

Then Bush should demand as much air time as needed on ALL TV networks to present the evidence from ties to Al Queada to WMD programs, to oil for food payoffs, to Syrian/Iranian influence in Iraq. It is too important to the country to rely on the good intentions of the media.

Of course Saddam's terrorists cooperated with other terrorist groups. Professionals are always attracted to others in the same profession.

I'm getting sick of waiting for historians to correct all the lies of our current mainstream media. I hope some of us live long enough to see the truth win finally.

...but the Slimes tells me there is no link between Saddam Hussein and terrorism, let alone 9/11. They also tell me there are no WMDs in Iraq (only a trace of sarin in old ordinance). I'm confused.

Seems like you're looking at the wrong source of information. By youtr tagline, it seems like you are from a very liberal part of the country, thus the manure is quite rampant. I, for one, am convinced that: "More will be revealed". Unfortunately, the lib press will probably ignore the facts since it won't fit their political agenda. The GOP needs to do find a dramatic way to get it out to the sheltered libs that there IS WMD and a connection between Iraq an Al Queda and 9/11. Be patient, it'll come soon enough.

You make some good points. Bush could and should do all those things to make his case. After watching his speech live, I got the impression that he believes tremendously in what he is doing. He would probably continue fighting terrorism and fighting for a democratic Iraq even if the polls told him it would cost him the election. So what we have here is a President who puts the requirements for national security above the requirements for his own political stature. This is exactly the type of President we need during war time. It is exactly the opposite type of President that Bill CLinton was. He put his own political stature and his own carnal desires above the requirements for national security.

This could theoritically cost Bush the election, but he probably feels that what he has accomplished since 9/11 is well worth it. Quite frankly we all should feel better knowing we have a leader who puts the nations safety and security above his own political desires. And the facts are quite clear, since 9/11 we have not had one domestic plane hijacked by terrorists. And since Bush has put this country on the offensive, we have not sufferred a major domestic terrorist attack.

I'm looking at the right source of information - FreeRepublic, The New York Post and Fox News. I don't believe a word I read in the Slimes --- it represents tomorrow's DNC talking points today. They have been getting a free ride as the fishwrap of record for far too long.

I too am waiting for the day when the Slimes will have to eat crow. Especially since they just repudiated their pro-WMD and pro-Saddam 9/11 links articles yesterday. That will be sweet. And if the evidence is overwhelming enough, even the Slimes can't ignore it, I hope.

He was shipped to Baghdad, where his leg was amputated.

Just last week I remember reading a report that the Intel community no longer feels his leg was amputated - just seriously injured.

Wouldn't it be funny that when the RATS unload their October suprise, the next morning at a nationally televised press conference, Bush announces that Bin Laden has been captured and that the link between Al Queada and Saddam has been established.

“Article of faith” is an excellent way to describe it. Anti-war liberals are galactically dishonest when they imply that had such a link been established, they would have actually supported the war.

It’s also noteworthy that nobody argues against the connection betwee nour guests at Gitmo and 9-11. Faced with incontrovertible evidence that these people are our mortal enemies, the left wants to coddle them and make sure they wake up every morning with a mint on their pillows.

An Saddam/Al Qaeda link is ultimately irrelevant to liberals, who live and breathe to hate Geroge Bush, traditional morals, and a non-globalist view of the world. Nobody should take them seriously when they demand evidence for anything. Such a response on our part is giving them far more credit than they deserve.
