The city's board of education approved districtwide days off for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, two sacred Islamic holidays, for the upcoming school year. Previously, under state law Muslim students and teachers were allowed to take off Islamic holidays without being penalized.

Unbelievable. They were already able to take the days off, but now they made them mandatory? Make no mistake folks: this is not about cultural sensitivity; this is about pushing Islam on the population. I don't even know if Euroweenieland has gone this far.

i know of no public schools that are closed for muslim holidays in Spain. although there could be. none near me and none of my friend's children's schools are. they also don't get jewish holidays off. as far as your "euroweenieland" comment, I would have to say that the USA leads the way in this sort of PC stuff, at least when compared to Spain. It's nice to read about what's going on, another thing is to see it.
i know this contradicts what some post, read & think here on FR but even in Barcelona (considered very left by Spanish standards) cops always have and continue to check papers based on a skin color basis (even with socialists in power). and after the Madrid bombings, "North African looking" males were stopped at train stations and on subways...(note) NOT Spanish grandmothers.
