Guess which direction this pushes unemployment?

DOWN.

Economy doing okay - good news out of Iraq... looks like the start of a good week.

Great idea. Particularly for all those that were so certain that never again would even one manufacturing job be created in the US.

Great news, but it only helps us if EVERY GOP talking head goes out and promotes it over and over. The MSM will never do it for us.

Our message recently has been splintered. If we coordinate it better, W can open up another lead over JFnK.

Dont tell me, either, in Ct the want ads are the smallest they have been in years

Mechanical Engineering jobs are the smallest they have been in years

wages for the factory jobs that do exist are at 1983 levels, and I am not exaggerating!

Asking someone to work for $8.00 is a high wage now!

Some dare to go as high as $13!!

I made more than that 15 years ago.

Yet, gas is higher than 15 years ago, so is rent, so are motor vehicle fees, so are taxes, so is food, so is milk, so is the phone bill, so is the electric bill...

In other words, the cost of living has doubled or tripled since 1983 (20 years ago) but wages for jobs have been cut inhalf or down to 1/3 for the same work or even more technical work!

As proponents of foreign outsourcing, The Institute for Supply Management is notorious for placing fallacious spin on it's bogus statistics. Government policies remain structurally hostile to the manufacturing sector, and there is no reason to suspect any long term reversal of the outsourcing trend. Until more detail statistics are made available, one would have to conclude that this is either a temporary seasonal blip, or that "hiring" has increased due to retirement of stable, senior employees and job churn occurring among inexperienced newhires. An increase in hiring doesn't necessarily indicate an increase of actual jobs available.

And if someone who was doing those jobs 15 years ago hasn't increased their marketable skill set in the past 15 years, then they have locked themselves into their situation, not the economy, and certainly not President Bush.

I'm not sure what the wages are, but here are the engineering jobs from Monster, over the last month. Some are obviously low-skill, low-pay. Many aren't. None of these would pay more than $13/hour?

Here where I live, we have an opening for a sanitary engineer - you know, the guy who drives around and sucks out porta-potties?
