Only one problem with your theory that we helped to settle an ongoing war between ALL the tribes. It ain't true.

In all people there are those that want what others have. In some tribes you became a man by stealing a horse from another tribe. You became a warrior by counting coup on an enemy.

Our system of government is based on that of the Five Civilized Tribes, as we called them.

The Cherokee integrated with those settling the eastern seaboard. They owned farms, dressed as the whites (sic) and some even owned slaves. But, they were still treated as inferior.

The Trail of Tears is the story of the roundup of Cherokee, and others, who were forced to leave there homes, in the Georgia area, and walk to the Cherokee Strip (now Oklahoma). That was circa 1830 and thereafter. If you look at the names of the counties in Oklahoma, you will see many different tribes represented. Oh yeah, the tears were shed for those, young and old, that were not strong enough to make the forced marches, and were buried along the Trail.

The People that fought against the oncoming hordes of settlers, were only trying to maintain their own form of PEACE and FREEDOM.

How does it feel, ya'll, as US Californian's come in and buy up your State, so that your children won't be able to buy a home?

Without perpetual war against the infidels, without Jihad, Islam has no driving purpose. It is therefore incumbent on all those who wish not to someday submit to an Islamic yoke to demand of Moslems that they publicly renounce the Koran Call to Jihad.

The first sentence isn't true, or at least it certainly isn't proven to be truer of Islam than of other religions by Wheeler. But if the first sentence is true, then there's no chance of the aspiration expressed in the second sentence coming true. If Islam does demand holy war, you won't get Muslims abandoning jihad.

If "Dr. Wheeler" can't even keep his own arguments straight it's hard to see why anyone else should be convinced. Tell people that their religion is the equivalent of one that demands massive human sacrifice and you won't get many converts. His article doesn't succeed as scholarship or as persuasion, so it looks like he's just venting.

It's not my cult or religion, but I think the record shows that for much of Islam's history most Muslims weren't fighting Holy Wars or trying to spread their religion by force.

Just what "jihad" means or can mean is another problem. Somehow I don't trust Wheeler and his bizarre comparisons of Islam with the Aztecs' religion of human sacrifice on this.

Jihad is the default position of Islam. Of course there are times and places when Islamics are fat and happy and ignore the Koran imprecations to Jihad. But armed Jihad has a lot more support in Koran/Hadith than does the quietist Islam you're thinking of. When Osama and Al Zawahiri (Egyptian sidekick) rant on about Jihad they have plenty of scriptural support.

That's averaging one per minute, every minute, twenty-four hours a day, for two weeks. Not just, slitting throats, but cardiac surgery on each one or hide removal. I have a hard time believing that. Of course many Muslims are lazy these days. Have family commitments. Though they sure liked the attack on 9-11. Think lazy and stupid, while the Jihadists are the true interpreters and actors of Islam. Where is the true Islam? The faithful Muslim emulates Muhammad. Go look at the life of Muhammad and his life of murder, plunder, pederasty, rape and Jihad.

I think it was 20 thousand in a year. They had a huge year for human sacrifice when their temple to the sun was consecrated. IIRC 50 years before Cortez came to their shores.

All Muslims east of Arabia (and north of it) are descendents of those who were converted by FORCE. There used to be many Christians in middle eastern countries, including Egypt. What happened? Forced conversion, or many left to avoid it. The entire Indian subcontinent including Pakistan and all points east - as well as Afghanistan - were conquered by Muslims and there was centuries of forced conversions, rapine, looting, torture, enslavement, slaughter, destruction of culture, villages, temples, forts, palaces, and so on.

Why are there any Muslims in East Asia? Descendents of forced converts and invaders. No other reason.
