Something woke me up at that time; I heard a loud boom and felt a shudder, as if someone had slammed the garage door. I got up and looked out the window to the south, but didn't see anything. I live just north of Seattle, in Shoreline.

I was just being a smart Alec this morning.

And I was just being one this early evening.

But we really do have flashes and booms here regularly.

Be safe. Hurry Home.

Thanks.

I do miss the kitties a lot. Their "Aunt and Uncle" send me pictures of them and stories about them regularly. I'll see them at the end of the year.

Same thing here steve. See my post, about 38 or so, I live on the Shoreline/Edmonds border. I can pee on K.C. over my back fence.

A meteor seems the most likely explanation, despite the earlier disclaimer about one coming down near Chehalis. It seemed too clear for it to be thunder and lightning, but that can't be ruled out, either.

Whidbey is an air force base is it not? Isn't that where our team from the surveillance plane the chinese downed originated?

Oh, that explains it...it's hard to wake me up -- I sleep through the trains that run all night along the shore of the Sound. No little ol' meteor would do it.

Ralph Gaume, head of astronometry at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., said he knew of no likely source from outer space, such as a passing comet or meteor cluster or shower, but added that meteors commonly appear at random. Another possibility, he said, would be "space junk" such as spent rocket engines or satellites falling from Earth orbit.

If we start reading about these daily, I'll start worrying more about Aussie Bloke and his debris cloud.

"We will never know..."

Woke us up, fast. Dogs barking "alert".

Bright flashes followed by 3 or 4 very loud booms in rapid succession.

Resembling more closely to the sound of serious ordnance rather than a sonic boom, I've heard both on several occasions in the Military.
