It has a terrorist-loving regime.
Iran's so-called supreme leader blasts Iraq's interim government
Jun 3, 2004
The supreme leader of Iran is blasting the newly named interim government in Iraq -- calling it "America's lackey."
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (hah-meh-neh-EE') charges that the Bush administration has failed to bring reform to post-Saddam Iraq. He pointed to the prisoner abuse scandal at Abu Ghraib prison -- and said it's the result of "removing spirituality from politics."
However the Iranian government doesn't see it the same way. The reformist administration welcomes the new government as a "step forward" toward full Iraqi sovereignty.
The ayatollah spoke at a commemoration of the death of the late Ayatollah Khomeni (hoh-MAY'-nee) 15 years ago. Khomeni founded the Islamic revolution that toppled the U-S-backed Shah in 1979.
