Our Dubya will. One common (and correct) theme of many commentators today is the fact that, politically speaking, GWB is far more the heir to Ronald Reagan than he is to his own father.

I've heard that too and it really pleases me. Of course, the mainstream media is being cordial only for a couple of days. They'll soon take out their sharpened knives and attack our beloved Reagan & continue the negative Bush bashing. Maybe RR will now be an angel on GWB's shoulder!

Thanks for adding your vigil link to this post. This thread makes a good central repository for all info related to the funeral, tributes, etc.

All for the Gipper, my friend! All for the Gipper!

Thanks Pat. I'm seriously considering taking a couple of days off to be there, even if just in the vicinity, of the Reagan Library during the services. Hop in the car, and I could be there in five hours. I just feel like I should be there.

“Whatever else history may say about me when I’m gone, I hope it will record that I appealed to your best hopes, not your worst fears; to your confidence rather than your doubts. My dream is that you will travel the road ahead with liberty’s lamp guiding your steps and opportunity’s arm steadying your way.”

Here's the Postal Service regulation on issuing stamps:

Commemorative stamps or postal stationery items honoring individuals usually will be issued on or in conjunction with significant anniversaries of their birth, but no postal item will be issued sooner than ten years after the individual's death. The only exception to the ten-year rule is the issuance of stamps honoring deceased U.S. presidents. They may be honored with a memorial stamp on the first birth anniversary following death.

My tribute:

Words cannot express the sadness I feel on this day. When I was 19, President Reagan became my first presidential vote, and in subsequent years became my political father, and mentor. I am honored to have lived my formative years under his presidency.

I find myself fighting tears as my emotions are touched the way only loss of family has touched them in the past. I think many in the nation, and the world, feel the same raw emotions tonight, and grieve at the loss; not just of a great leader, but a great man.

May the world never forget the place Ronald Reagan has earned in its history; it is better because of him.

"We weren't just marking time. We made a difference. We made the city stronger, we made the city freer, and we left her in good hands. All in all, not bad, not bad at all."

-President Ronald Wilson Reagan

It takes a simple act of congress to override a bureaucratic postal regulation. This is a good time and a good occasion for the Republican majority to flex their muscle. We don't need to wait until February 6, 2005. July 4, 2004 is a very appropriate anniversary considering that Reagan's presidency quite possibly saved our nation.
