Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass: "On foreign policy he will be honored as the president who won the Cold War, and his 'Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall' will be linked forever with President Kennedy's 'Ich bin ein Berliner.' President Reagan and Nancy were always very gracious to the Kennedy family and they are both very much in our thoughts and prayers in this difficult time."

I just about fell out of my seat reading this. To be praised by your enemies is truly a sign of greatness.

President Bush has been more than gracious to the Drunken Lifeguard. Unfortunately, he has returned the kindness with vitriol.

Ted Kennedy didn't like communism, because they wouldn't be any private property to tax.

Well I'm stunned. That's an excellent comment by Kennedy. Of course after the funeral he could always crawfish and say that Reagan will be remembered for having won the cold war but that he (Kennedy) doesn't believe he (Reagan) was responsible for winning it. After Clinton we have to parse words carefully.

What would have been awesome (assuming it had to happen at all) is if all this happened in the week of the DNC convention and we could have watched the Reagan praising live on TV.

I must protest seeing Kennedy and Reagan in the same thread as I protest seeing Clinton and Reagan in the same thread.

Uncle Ted has just delivered the best summation I've seen for keeping President Bush on the job. At a time when the junior guy from his home state has been forced to suspend politicking. Life is delicious! The Gipper would have approved.

Famous words Reagan will forever be remembered for...'Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall'

Famous words Clinton will forever be remembered for... "I did not have sex with that woman Mrs Lewinsky"

I'm guessing Teddy had to be more than a little drunk to say this.

It has trumped the release of Clinton's book, and I wouldn't underestimate the possibility that this will initiate a resurgence of Reagan-style conservatism as people remember what he acheived, and the ideology and leadership that freed much of the world from communist oppression. Who knows, maybe it will last through the election...

"On foreign policy he will be honored as the president who won the Cold War

I.e., a grudging acknowledgement that some will say that, not an assertion that it's true, or even good.
