I don't see a problem with the statement. She's giving it from the SAG perspective. There's not much doubt that his conservative views were at odds with the organized labor movement including SAG. Seems accurate when it could have been a whole lot worse.

Any word from Charlton Heston or his family? Considering he has Alzheimer's?

Yes I heard or read he had made a statement.

Check that...news reports have said Charlton Heston had spoken to Nancy on the phone following the death.

Methinks you are a little sensitive. It's certainly natural to assume a union president would be liberal, and Reagan was in his earlier years.

He's my favorite too!
I have most of his movies.

At first I was just grateful to see the word "conservative " in there!
After reading through the thread and then re-reading her statement, I must concur with you.
The statement is achingly t...h...i...n, and that little word "while" is the tiny little bubble rising to the surface, betraying a batch of boiling bile (not necessarily MG's, but SAG's) underneath a veneer of politeness.
While not exactly uncharitable, there is certainly a lack of obvious gratitude and a curious lack of eloquence.
It's just so dang dry.
Your writer's eye is spot on.

I am assuming you realize that the term "labor movement" refers to organized labor unions, and not people who work.
Assumptions allow political correctness to do its greatest damage. Who gave this Little House twit the right to define whether Reagan was good or bad for the labor movement, no matter how you define it? Especially on the occasion of Reagan's death? The original poster was right. It was a slap.
To: Wolfstar
Completely off topic, but does anyone know if Michael Landon was conservative?
He was a huge formative influence on Melissa Gilbert.

Thanks, Doodlelady. Thin is a perfect description of the statement. Perhaps my real fault, if such it may be, is that I shouldn't have expected more from SAG or the film industry.

Re Michael Landon, I'm not sure, but think he was a Democrat. However, I don't recall that he was ever a political activist.

I shouldn't have expected more from SAG or the film industry. Why not? I hear SAG once had an eternal optimist for a president! ;-)
Never say never.

I think, after President Reagan is buried, we FReepers ought to pour out our feelings about modern-day Hollywood in letters and emails to SAG. You've gotten a lot of grief on this thread for daring to say that.
Truth is, this is a PERFECT time to FReep Schmaltzywood while Reagan's fresh face is still foremost. I'd love to help develop this idea.

You're not the only one!
Rush just said this morning
that Reagan's legacy would be best served
by improving our individual lives,
and others,
with whatever good we can influence.
Hollywood is the worst possible offender,
and would be very fun to FReep! :-)

Yes indeed.
Hollywood needs a full-out FReep.

Wolfstar, would you consider re-writing the SAG statement as you would have liked to honor him?
I'd be curious to see one written by someone who actually loves him!

Let's wait until RWR is buried, then develop the idea further.
