Whether you are from New York State or not, please help dethrone New York State's Charles Schumer. Senator Schumer is one of the, if not THE top leader of the fillibusters to stop President Bush's judicial nominees from going to the floor for an up OR down vote.

Dr. Marilyn O'Grady is running against liberal pro-abortion Charles Schumer and liberal pro-abortion Republican, Howard Mills.

James Buckley won in the Senate race in New York State under the Conservative Party, WITHOUT the help of any major party. Let's repeat history in 2004!!

The New York State Republican Party runs people like pro-abortion Pataki for governor. Gov. Pataki took the pro-life out of the New York State Republican Party platform.

I'm for smaller govt. and lower taxes, as well, but being pro-life is my litmus test for a candidate.

God has blessed our country, because the Founding Fathers prayed to God for wisdom when writing the constitution.

God is slow to anger, but how long will he bless us if we continue to kill the most innocent of lives?

> please help dethrone New York State's Charles Schumer

Let's be very clear about this. Voting for the likes of O'Grady has nothing to do with detrhoning Schumer, and unless she also is embraced by the Republicans, will actually work to place him back in office.

What it might do, however, is begin a long period of prolife base-building at the expense of short-term electoral results. Whether the chance of doing that is worth the cost remains, to this observer, to be seen, dependant upon who the Republicans nominate. For me, it's too early to make that call.

I didn't know that the NYS RTL Party was in demise. Not a bad thing, considering their divisive inflexibility.

Yes, it is a long shot.

However, you can NEVER win by being pessimistic. If the NYS Conservative Party won the U.S. Senate race with James Buckley in 1970, why can't they do it again?

Hi Tamsey,
I am responding to your post on this thread, because for some reason the NYPost article thread has been pulled. Arlen Specter throws a conservative bone once in awhile, especially before an election. Please do a search about his history. Here's just one article to get you started:

April 19, 2004, 8:44 a.m.
Benchless
Arlen Specter keeps a qualified judge off the federal bench.

By David J. Sanders

It has been almost a year since President Bush nominated Arkansas lawyer Leon Holmes to the federal bench. Since that time, he has had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, but his nomination remains stalled.

Holmes enjoys the support of his two home senators, Democrats Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor. Even with their support, however, some Senate Democrats were uneasy with Holmes. Sen. Charles Schumer, the hard-core liberal New York Democrat, railed against Holmes, but those attacks began to subside last year. Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle has said the Holmes nomination wouldn't be filibustered by Democrats.

So what is the problem?

It is liberal Republicans who have put Holmes in their sights with hope of stopping his nomination. Word is that Pennsylvania senator Arlen Specter — who, if reelected, will likely be Judiciary Committee chairman next session — continues to lead the charge against Holmes's nomination. He is not alone. Republican Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, both of Maine, continue to stand between Holmes and his vote on the Senate floor."

Yes... you quoted me an article that can only go so far as to state "word is" that Specter is against Holmes. Specter actually voted for Holmes in Committee... http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110003978

You may not be that familiar with Pennsylvania. We are split about halfway down the middle between the left and the right.... the state went for Gore in 2000 and in 2002 we elected Rendell, a Democrat, for governor. We are extremely fortunate to have Santorum for a Senator given the fact that conservatives are outnumbered here... the only reason Santorum IS a governor is because Specter helped him in his campaign. Specter is too far to the center for my tastes, but he actually reflects the voter base in Pennsylvania fairly well and we still have the gift of Santorum in the Senate with him.

The reason your other thread was pulled was because you violated posting rules in about 4 different ways. You should read up on them if you don't know what was wrong.

Hi Tamsey,
Specter's actions show another good reason to get rid of RINOs. :)

I guess FreeRepublic is too structured for me. I think posting should be fun! This will be my last post on FreeRepublic.

Before you dismiss it as pessimism, who are the Pubs going to nominate? Prove to me that giving my vote to a third party is a good idea this time around. The burden of proof is on you. Otherwise we have, not a case of pessimism, but of fanciful optimism.

I think NYC alone has over 100,000 abortions every year. Sorry, no pro-life candidate is going to win a statewide election in NY State anytime soon.

The NY GOP looks to have laid down for Schumer - a shame. Stuff like Dr. O'Grady's candidacy won't make much of a difference - it certainly won't mean the win or loss for the GOP in that race.

When will the NY GOP get its act together?

While I'm no fan of either, perhaps we should remember that Democrats are even more the enemy than centrist Republicans.

Posting is fun, but Free Republic is a large and quite annoying problem to the left.... it's been a target for law suits trying to shut it down and members here need to follow the rules posting legally protected material.

Don't go. Once you are here for a while and get the hang of things, following the guidelines will become second nature.

We could use another doctor in the Senate, to educate Frist regarding the sanctity of individual human life no matter how young.

I agree.

He has a great pro-life record it's too bad he profits from the abortion industry and wants embryonic stem cell research to continue.

Frist a Major Share-Holder in Reputed For-Profit Abortion Provider

by Terence P. Jeffrey, HUMAN EVENTS  Posted Dec 23, 2002
Sen. Bill Frist (R.-Tenn.) has said he will challenge Sen. Trent Lott (R.-Miss.) for the position of Senate Majority Leader. Frist, who ran for the Senate as a moderate in 1994, said at the time that he would prefer to keep abortion legal. The senator was also a major shareholder in the stock of reported abortion provider HCA.
