A Home for a Gay Channel By BILL CARTER

EXECUTIVES of MTV Networks seemed to be caught a bit off guard by the hostile reaction to their announcement last week that they intend to create the first cable entertainment channel devoted to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender viewers, called Logo.
Religious groups, including the Traditional Values Coalition, denounced the idea as amounting to "moral anarchy" and promised to organize a boycott of companies that advertise on the channel.
But the executives behind the project remain convinced that MTV Networks will be able to overcome any impediments. After all, as the cable arm of Viacom Inc., it runs the most popular and powerful set of cable channels in the business - everything from Nickelodeon to Comedy Central, VH-1 and MTV itself.
MTV Networks is the only cable group with both the cultural position and, more importantly, the clout in the industry to launch a channel with so many enemies. Only a large media conglomerate has the leverage to get that type of programming distributed widely.
Judy McGrath, the group president of MTV Networks, said that within days of the announcement she was holding talks with cable system owners like Time Warner and Comcast about carrying the channel, not as part of their basic package but as part of their so-called digital tier. At the same time, she said, numerous companies had already contacted MTV about sponsoring the channel.
Logo is scheduled to begin operation in February. Very little programming has been announced, only a roster of movies, like "The Birdcage" and "Gods and Monsters." Ms. McGrath said that despite charges that the programming would be immoral and anti-family, the content would be "everyday basic cable television fare."
Bravo is already the gay channel
MTV itself is pretty much this kind of a channel anyway.
Are they really that stupid?
They were "caught off guard" by the reaction?
Do these guys ever get out of their ivory towers and talk to the regular folks?
Could somebody tell me if the actor who played Robin William's drag queen character's ex-wife a man or a real woman?
They forget Questioning and Intersexual.

The New York Times is the nation's premiere gay newspaper.
There's still some watchable programming on Bravo. Less, with their current fetish with "The West Wing".
Also OD'ing on gayness are TLC and Discovery. Other than the occasional "Myth Busters", I no longer watch either of those channels.
MTV must be suffering from too much incest. Like the story of Dutch's election in 1980, "I don't know anyone that voted for him".
I stopped watching MTV eons ago. Besides, it is a Viacom property. I'm not in their demographic - they don't
provide worthwhile entertainment or honest news, I don't contribute to their bottom line.
Homosexual Agenda Ping - Another article about the all homo-all the time channel.
Two motives - money, but primarily indoctrination. The homosexual indoctrinators can't sleep at night because some people still don't celebrate the "gay/lesbian/transsexual/pansexual/bisexual" life.

I like to watch American Chopper on discovery.
Hey, I thought those guys where gay.
I must be getting VERY OLD. I actually remember when MTV showed music videos.

That deer in the headlight look isn't very convincing. They want to look like the innocent party but feed off the controversy for the publicity.
