By the way, on several occasions I've spoke with/QSOd Art Bell, also an amateur radio operator, on 75 meters. I got a kick out of that. Now THAT would be an interesting QSO! That's one of the fun things about our hobby. You never know who will be on the other end of the mic.

He's on 75 all the time. He's a regular.

The disadvantage to the Tech ticket is that it limits the licensee to using 30 MHz and above. No biggie, just a nit. The lowest band the Techs have is six meters, so it's more like 50 MHz and above.
I've worked central Kansas and northern Ontario from North Carolina using 30W on six. Fun band.
There are lots of things to do on VHF/UHF. I have a small FM repeater here at the house on 1291.4 MHz. It's real quiet up there, no static, you don't hear anything but RF. My ham friends and I are also playing with a repeater on 927.7125 in addition to our 440 and 220 repeaters.
Techs can work DX too, by putting their repeaters on a Voice-over-IP network like IRLP or EchoLink. It's fun to talk to hams on the other side of the world; maybe not quite as much fun as working them straight from your antenna, but you can hear 'em a lot better on an FM repeater.

"Woohoo! I wonder where on the bands Patti is usually active? I'd love to have that QSL card for my collection."
In the mid-90's she was sometimes on 220 mobile, of all things.

I want W4FRP! Already assigned to a ham in South Pasedena, FL, but N4MC's Vanity HQ shows K4FRP up for grabs.

She might have been the only one there....
Prediction: when BPL pushes everyone off HF onto 2m, refugees from 2m will fill up 220. Hey! That's it! The whole thing is a plan to get us to finally use 220! :)
