Libs: Clinton More Popular Than Reagan
NewsMax.com ^ | 6/08/04 | Carl Limbacher and the NewsMax.com staff

Posted on 06/08/2004 2:03:13 PM PDT by kattracks

Frustrated liberals, angry at having to spend an entire week watching the nation pay tribute to the man they derided alternately as "an amiable dunce" and a heartless autocrat, are now claiming that Bill Clinton was actually a more popular president than Ronald Reagan.

"In truth, Ronald Reagan was never as popular as he is being presented to be with Americans," writes Slate Magazine's Eric Alterman.

"As president, [he] was never even as popular as Bill Clinton during the period of Clinton’s impeachment," argues the disgruntled Democrat.

For evidence, Alterman cites a Gallup poll that tracks approval ratings for Clinton, Reagan, Carter and both Bushes to back his claims. The same poll is touted prominently on Democrats.com, a web site run by former Clinton White House staffers and DNC veterans.

Unfortunately for Alterman and the rest of the Reagan-haters, some of us still remember what the voters said when they actually got a chance to make their will known at the polls.

Clinton, for instance, never won more than 49 percent of the vote, managing that feat in 1996. And he probably never would have been president at all without Ross Perot acting as a Republican spoiler in 1992, when Clinton squeaked in with just 43 percent of the vote.

Reagan, on the other hand, trounced his two Democratic opponents in 44 and 49 state landslides.

In fact, no president in U.S. history has ever gotten more votes than Reagan did in 1984, despite the fact that the nation's population has grown by more than 30 million in the last twenty years.

Idiots. The only popularity poll that matters for a President is the election. Compare the numbers and anyone with an ounce of sense will see that Reagan was MUCH, MUCH more popular than the toon.

He never won so much as a majority of the vote.

Orders of magnitude more popular as this week's outpouring attests.

Rave on witless drone, Reagan won 49, that's 49 states in 1984. Clinton will be remembered as a clown and his policies will be best left on the ash-heap of history.

And President Reagan only stared in decent films?

The crowds at Reagan's casket show what a popular and well loved man he was.

When Clinton dies the crowds at his casket will be those wanting to make damn sure he's dead.

Does Altergirl think hundreds of thousands are going to spens 10-12 hours on line to honor the Bent One on his demise? Even he can't be that delusional.

The only people lining up for the Sink Emperor will be saying: "Hey, he owed me money."

I said on an earlier thread that these Clinton apologists are really scraping the bottom of the barrel when they use some idiotic "approval ratings" in place of actual election results.

I'm sure Eric Alterman believes that Bill Clinton was a greater president than George Washington because Clinton got 370 electoral votes in 1992 and Washington only got 69 in 1789.

Yeah. And Germans thought that Adolph Hitler was much more popular than Otto von Bismark. But years later you couldn't find many people who admitted supporting der Fuerher.

.

An angry CLINTON has been shut out from speaking at REAGAN's Memorial Service in Washington, D.C.

A quiet CARTER has also.

A passed on REAGAN1 will re-elect BUSH2 in 2004

A breathing CLINTON couldn't even re-elect AL GORE in 2000.

Of course, Ford isn't complaining that he isn't speaking because it wouldn't be appropriate. Only Bush I (Reagan's VP) and Bush II (sitting head of state) are speaking. Others are Mulroney and Thatcher.

If Clinton wants, he can give the Democratic response.

There is a big difference between Clinton and Reagan.
Clinto was an administrator and a (Lying) politician who had to have a poll on every subject under discussion.

Reagan was a leader who did what was right regardless of polls.

Reagan won 49, that's 49 states in 1984

FYI the state of Minnesota & the District of Columbia were the only victories that the dems had. Michael Regan remembers that 3 weeks before the election it was clear the RR would win them with the only one in doubt but close was Mondells own state. The campaign ask RR if they should go there & win it. RR said no. The humiliation was enough at that point. Now you tell me if Bubba or the Hildebeast had that opportunity would they have held off. Not at all.

Aw gee, there goes those pesky conservatives once again, using things like "facts" in a debate.

I didn't know this, by the way. Pretty impressive.

Let's have a contest. Foreign policy is the question.

Which is more important and speaks of American greatness.

A. What Clinton did with the Chinese
B. What Reagan did for Nicaragua.

I said foreign policy, so leave the her-monica out of it.

The wild thing is, this map is from Reagan's SECOND election. Guess he must have been doing a pretty good job - Clinton never won a majority of the voters even ONCE.

Bill O'Reilly said the same cr*p about approval ratings. President Reagan won 49 out of 50 states in '84 with almost 60% of the vote. Slick never even came close to those numbers, which are the only ones that mean anything.
