How do you put a lock on a diet? If you stop before then it's a god comparison, but then you take it to the point of silliness.

You finally noticed! That was my insertion to make you think! We put the lock on to keep the little kids out. We do not put it on to keep the adults out. Atkins cannot be faulted for the 'attractive nuisance' part of their diet no more than the owner of a pool can be faulted if a neighbor adult drowns in his pool while he is away.

Any diet that yanks out food groups is potentially lethal, this isn't a unique property of Atkins, and it's only a problem with Atkins if the dieter stops reading the book too soon.

I didn't see any statement like that. But you'd be wrong if you made that statement. The final analysis of BFP does take gender into account, and it doesn't need to take age into account.

I love how all the people I knew last year who got excited about losing 5 lbs on Atkins are still fat today.

Some people will believe anything.

Or possibly the guy that keeps asking a pointless question that's entirely besides the point?!

I noticed from the start. That was you taking the example to an idiotic extreme that rendered your entire example a completely pointless red herring.

"I love how all the people I knew last year who got excited about losing 5 lbs on Atkins are still fat today. "

They must have stopped following the plan. I've lost roughly 50 lbs (maybe more, I don't feel the need to weigh myself anymore.) I am more energetic and active. I don't need to count carbs anymore because I don't eat as much and I avoid those foods that are high in carbs.

It's only a fad if you treat it like one. Had I stopped after the first week or two I'd still weigh 250, likely more. Now I'm under 200lbs.

So many people are either half informed or worse, woefully misinformed about this change in lifestyle that it makes me laugh. Anyone who thinks they can loose 15lbs in a couple of weeks and keep it off once they return to their previous lifestyle is a moron.

I would have to say that a low fat diet is a fad - I tried that. I was always hungry and even though I have good self control, I did not loose much weight at all. I was always tired.

Well, since the BMI thresholds are determined by useless nanny statist bureaucrats, maybe that's actually the objective, they WANT people to look Pelosi-like! ;-)

Also, do you have at least 50% less saturated fat and sugar than standard Xena? If not, you may not be allowed to call yourself Xenalyte! ;-)

Actually, it's -lyte as in "acolyte," not -lite as in Miller Lite(tm). But I definitely have 50% less muscle than Standard Xena. Does that count?

The final analysis of BMI takes gender, sex and other factors into account. hmmm

I notice you use 'Red Herring' a lot when you don't want to discuss an issue.

My ex tried that against my advice. She finally came off it. The cravings were killing her and she was miserable. She went on a modified Atkins and started a good exercise routine and it worked great.

You don't lose weight (at least not more than a fraction of an ounce) by being excited. You have to execute the plan.

The only reason people lose weight on Atkins is because it forces you to count your calories, just like any other diet.

Sure, you'll lose weight... only if you consume fewer calories than you burn in a day. Anyone who claims to be losing weight by eating tons of fat and protein is a liar.

If it doesn't account for age and other factors it is useless.
