Someone was just on Rush and told the black woman story. It was a male.
Very nice report. Thank you.
Great pictures! Great thread!
Yes, that was my husband. :)
Yeah...I heard the same thing.
Cool. I was hoping so. Good job to joanie-f's husband.
Thank you for the kind comments, Jeff. So sorry that your Mom is ill, and that you won't be able to make it to Simi Valley (my two sisters and I had vowed that, had there not been a ceremony in Washington, we would have flown out there, so yesterday was a blessing).
We have lost the greatest President this country has ever known -- a rare man in whom faith, honesty, courage, compassion, and character-laden vision were perfectly and heorically combined.
There will never be another like him.
Thank you, Steve.
You're very welcome.
Thanks for the kind comments.
Mostly, I think says a lot about the element which supports conservatism.
I was wondering what a funeral for Billy boy would look like...if I live that long. Probably will look like a alumni gathering of carnies, (no offense to circus personnel). I bet they will behave like Visigoths! We saw their behavior when Billy and his tuna left the WH.
You know, by federal regultion, within a year of his departure from the presidency, the president and his family must file detailed funeral/memorial service plans (to be updated every year). The only President who has so far failed to do so is Clinton. Yesterday, in speculation regarding what Clinton's memorial celebrations would be like (considering the fact that he and Hillary would be in charge of the arrangements, if they ever get to it), many in the crowd (your truly included) were half-heartedly guessing what would be involved. I won't sully this thread by citing any of the suggestions, though. Let's just say that many of them were similar to yours. :)
Beautiful, just beautiful!
Thank you, Joanie!
I think the really large, the unexpectedly vast crowd, and the truly broad and sincere demonstration of sympathy for the former president can be seen as a sort of political barometer. I mean apart from the turn out which was to be expected, and apart from the strictly curious element, does any one else see it as an accurate indication of the mood of the country?
WOW! Bump for later read!
AWESOME as always!
Great pictures. Even greater story. Thank you for the vist, Joanie. I felt as if I was there, and wish I could have been.
Here is a late addition that I neglected to include in the original post. This is a scan of a memento that was given to everyone upon leaving the Rotunda (it also serves the purpose of keeping a relatively accurate count of how many people take part, depending on how many of these are dispensed):
Can't say how I knew, but I knew you were there.
Knew you'd give me (& everyone else) the chance to live the experience, through you & your eyes.
Just knew it.
You didn't disappoint, joanie.
Thank you.
"I have not enjoyed so much uplifting, 'kindred spirit, meaningful political conversations in recent memory."
No less than a Devine, renewing experience I would have to say.
Proving once again the positive effect that man had on so many people, even in death.
That kind of man never dies, joanie.
Ronald Reagan will never be further than a thought away.
"And, despite the physical closeness, the heat, and the security concerns, the crowd was also permeated with a decency and honesty that made one feel at home and completely relaxed."
Compare your above account with what you related a week or so ago, when last in DC.
...truly remarkable.
