I am sure some real estate developer is keeping an eye for this parcel to come up on auction...
Maybe one of those "lesser publicized" auctions where relatives and friends of local gubbmint jagoffs always win?
A friend of mine has been up there (Memorial Day weekend) and said there were a lot of people there, but he was told before that it's been dozens or hundreds, not THOUSANDS like the Post couldn't help but point out. Have you heard anything different?
Also, the county jagoffs said the fines were mainly for the "signs?" Huh? $2.8 million for putting up some signs?
I've been saying for years that the real threat to our freedoms comes not from Washington, but from petty bureaucrats and tin-pot politicians in counties and towns all over the country. They want to tell you how to live your life and what to do with your property. They're the only ones in office because most Americans weren't raised by hippie parents to be "activists" and are too busy making a living and raising a family to take the time to boss other people around. I live in south Florida and some of the worst of these petty tyrants are right here.
Yep, it does sound the county would like his land. Coincidently, I attended my first mug bog Saturday night. My teenagers were going and invited the old folks to attend. We had a blast but were quite disappointed in the several youngsters who drove their 30K four wheel drives into that muck. I was just waiting for a rod to sling up into the audience.
Incidentally, this mud bog was held out in the boonies and I could see cows grazing, unfazed, just beyond where I was sitting. The neighboring ranchers' claim seems bogus to me.
Tell that to the mayor of San Francisco. As far as Leftists are concerned, laws never apply to them, only to their opponents.
"This is the kind of thing that leads to bulldozer rampages"
The authorities will probably confiscate his welding equipment.
Most code enforcers and county boards can selectively pursue or not pursue cases. Looks like they are sticking it to this guy unfairly.
Im in Port St. Lucie, the word of mouth around town is that Crowder was really miffed because he had to supply traffic control and the county was going gahgah because the land owner was bad mouthing them to the local news channels. I don't know much about the signage problem.
This guy could have made it all work if he kept his mouth under control and gave out a few handouts here and there and paid the Sheriff. But seeing as how the county bumped everything up to millions, I doubt this guy has a choice now.
Maybe the nearby landfill was threatened? Who knows. Martin County is between a rock (West Palm) and a hard place (St. Lucie).
The new deal is for Palm Beach County to hookup with Martin and St. Lucie county to compete with Broward and Dade. Palm Beach has been taking a beating from Dade for long enough.
Then there is the political angle. Martin is sandwiched between lefty Palm Beach and St. Lucie which is becoming Lefty Pam Beach refugees aka "St. Lucie West".
You nailed it! <|:-)~~
Until you cross PGA Blvd going south, you don't run into too many liberals.
We don't pick and choose which laws we adhere to in this country.
I deny the authority of counties to "zone". Actually, I deny the zoning authority of cities as well, but at least people knowingly choose to live under city ordinances. People out in the county are often there because they don't *want* the city government crap.
Secondly, if it's 900 acres, I'm fairly confident that there was plenty of room to do whatever they wanted without bothering the neighbors.
In several African countries - landowners are having their land forcibly taken from them.
Here in the good 'ole US, nothing like that happens. Government officials just tax and fine it away from you.
To the old time libs in PBC, anything north of PGA Blvd is still the end of civilization.
<|:-)~~
The noise trespass alone is worth filing the code violation.
The noise from one mudbogger will carry 3 miles. That is 9000 acres, not 900 acres. Times 2000 mudboggers and you would need 20,000 acres.
It's a legal matter.
