I'm afraid America is not skating on the edge, we've plunged down the slope into the funnel of dehumanization for utilitarian purposes. The unborn are disenfranchised and dehumanized, to permit the serial killing of the unborn, and now the dehumanization is pushing the exploitation of embryonic aged human life for 'enlightened medical applications'. We stopped skating the edge when in vitro fertilization went beyond conceiving one or two embryonic aged individuals and rushed to have 'extras for freezing'.

Germany had colonies? Where were they? In the Pacific: the Mariana, Caroline, Marshall Islands and West Samoa. China's Shandong peninsula.
In Africa: Togoland (Togo & Benin), Cameroon, Tanganyika (Tanzania), and Southwest Africa (Nambia).

Thanks for the ping - what an interesting read. (though "interesting" may be replaced with "horrifying") It's truly frightening how this country already is, to a degree, following in these footsteps. *I shake my head in sorrow*

but what about the horrors that happened in the Pacific theater?
I susepct there are may be a couple of reasons that the Mengele-style operations by
Japan get short shrift (vs. the Nazis).
(bear in mind, these are my amateur guesses)
1. What transpired on the beaches and mountains of the Pacific during WWII was
so savage, not to mention the death rates of Allied POWs in Japanese death/work
camps and murderous style of transporting Allied POWs...the Mengele-style stuff starts
to look almost normal.
2. The "we're sorry you got nuked...even after you didn't surrender after the
first bomb" syndrome.
This reflect the genuine goodeness and the softness of Americans.
We closed the chapter of the Pacific Theater, feel a bit guilty about over-doing it,
so the digging out the darker recesses of the Empire of The Rising Sun
just doesn't get the exam it deserves.
3. Maybe a fair number of the records and participants didn't survive the "end days"
of WWII. So maybe documenting the horrors is a bit more difficult that
for say, the rape of Nanking.
4. And, if I understand correctly, a lot of the diplomatic work follwing
VJ day was intended to close the book; e.g., Allied POWs having high hurdles
to clear to get public recognition of what was done to them, let alone get real compensation.
