Thursday June 17, 2004 COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) A 2-year-old boy was kidnapped during a carjacking and is in ``extreme danger,'' police said Thursday.
The toddler's mother, Lakendra Trice, told police two men approached her and her son Tellious Brown as they got out of a car Wednesday night.
She said the men pointed a gun at her and drove off with the boy still in the car, which police found abandoned a short time later.
Police referred all questions to the FBI, who declined to comment.
Family members said Tellious is shy and quick to cry when scared.
``He doesn't really take to strangers and that's what really worries us,'' said Martha Trice, the boy's great-grandmother. ``He just gets upset a lot a cries around strangers.''
Martha Trice said the boy's family members gathered in Columbus after the kidnapping and stayed up all night hoping for word of his return.
``He's a very lovable child, his mother's only child,'' she told The Associated Press. ``He not the type of child you can just walk by. He's beautiful.''
Police issued an Amber Alert Thursday for Tellious, posting his description to media outlets and on highway billboards. Columbus is 95 miles south of Atlanta near the Alabama border.

I did several searches. Please delete if its a duplicate
A descrip of the men might help.
Prayers have been sent up for Tellious, & for his family. I pray He will guide the rescuers, so that child can be located quickly.
I'm actually a little surprised the carjackers took the child with them when they abandoned the car. Usually, they just want the car. I wonder what's going on here....
Regardless, God be with you, Tellious.
They may have dropped the kid off sooner than they ditched the car, rather than drive around with him bawling. I sure hope he's found OK.
Here's what I don't understand.... why would you hijack a car, only to ditch it? What for the radio inside it??
Either the father kidnapped the kid or the mother is suspect.
Got tired of waiting for the bus, I suspect. Prayers for this innocent child.
Somehow, I get the feeling that they may belong to an ethnic minority, in which case it would be racist to describe them in an unflattering context.
ditto & Amen!
Yup, I wish I had the dad's name, not coming up with much on what info we have.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation issued the Amber Alert for the Columbus toddler at the request of the FBI. GBI reports that the FBI is handling the case.
Tellious Brown, 2 yrs. black male was abducted Wednesday night in Columbus Georgia when two men approached his mother's car as they got out of the black Buick and pointed a gun at the mother, Lekendra Trice.
He was last seen wearing a white tank top, shorts and Reebok tennis shoes.
The men are described as black and are considered armed and dangerous.
They drove off with the boy still in the car. Police found the Buick a short time later, but it was empty. Columbus is 95 miles south of Atlanta near the Alabama border.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation indicates that the FBI is handling the case.
Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 706-596-9603 or 440-679-9000 or dial 911.
Prayers for Tellious and family.

"The men are described as black and are considered armed and dangerous."
I hope this isn't another one of those Smith ladies....
Well, we know they're not really "black" in the actual scientific sense, any more than you and I are literally white ...
"The men are darker than Colin Powell, but lighter than Walter Williams ..."
To get away from a previous crime that one had committed just a short time before. Happened to me about a month ago in the early morning hours on my way to work.
Two guys were busted by a resident of an apt complex breaking into cars and they took off. About 30 minutes later, as I'm walking back to my truck at a gas station about two blocks away, I get a gun put in my face, truck gone.
The connections were made by the Sheriff who just happened to be at the burglary location when my call came in about the carjacking.
JME/O on the subject, it will change your life if it ever happens, pray for the mom as well. She will be going through a lot of emotions about her close call with death as well as her missing child.
I pray you are wrong, but sadly, that is what I thought when I read that the mom & toddler were "getting out of the car" when approached. What mother would not fight to the death to get her child out of the car before it its taken? I pray we are both wrong!!
The child was with his mother when two black men approached them as they got out of a Buick and pointed a gun at the Trice, police said. There was no further description available of the attackers.
Something not quite right with this story tho.
That's what I was thinking. I wonder if there were any witnesses to the carjacking and abduction, other than the mother?
What an adorable little boy ... putting the best "spin" on a terrible situation, I hope he's safe with his father.
I agree, if all the hijackers wanted was a joy ride, why not leave the kid in the car. This story is definitely suspect.
Two investigations-- one team on the alleged carjacking, another on the mother and her activities for the last few days. Her story is very suspicious.
I agree. Drug related or mother made up this story perhaps because the child was already harmed.
What a beautiful baby.
Prayer bump....
Oh, is he a cutie! Prayers on the way.
That face is adorable. May his mother hold him in her arms soon.
Kidnappers Demanded Ransom For Columbus Toddler
(WSB Radio) A two-year-old boy kidnapped by two men in Columbus last night is believed to be in grave danger.
WSB's Bob Coxe reports the last communication from the kidnappers, two black men in their mid-20s, was around 1:00 Thursday morning.
Columbus Police Captain Lem Miller tells me they accosted Tellious Brown and his mother, Lakendra Trice, at gunpoint around 8:30 Wednesday night on Staunton Drive in Columbus, then drove off with the boy.
"We later, within an hour I would say, found the car several miles from the original location," says Miller, "however, the baby was not in the vehicle."
The Amber Alert was issued just before 9:30 Thursday morning. Coxe asked Miller if authorities had been in touch with the boy's father.
"He's cooperating, and we're talking to him," Miller said. "He's not a suspect."
Miller says the men later called to demand a ransom, but police aren't revealing how much the kidnappers demanded.
Cpt. Miller also says it's unknown whether Trice knows either of the men involved.

They haven't asked (yet), or she won't say, or they don't believe what she says ...
That poor little boy! I keep looking at my own 2-year-old asleep in his crib, to make sure he's still there!
Having heard about the ransom update - another prayer has been sent up for the child.
Still wondering to myself if the mother knows more than she is saying, or if there is something more to this story.
I'm in northeast Florida...they broke into local programming this am to report this...so glad it seems to be getting wider coverage
Lord, please keep this little child safe and return him to his family
A fuuny thing, your post #35 ... I was thinking just a few minutes ago that the story could have been: "Two men approached single mom Lakendra Trice as she was helping her toddler from the car - and she drew her pistol from her concealed-carry holster and shot them both dead."
We need the death penalty for kidnapping... among other things.
She said the men refused to let her get her son out of the car, who was sitting in the back seat.
"I said let me get my son out the car and they told me no," she said.
The men drove off with the boy still in the car, police said. Police found the Buick about half an hour later, but it was empty. Police said the abductors apparently knew Trice's boyfriend and reportedly called him three times from pay phones. During one of the calls, the kidnappers reportedly demanded $100,000 ransom.

I disagree with your comment about"absurd"names.Names like "Alawishes",Hermoine"or"Barney"used to be fairly normal and now they seem quaintly archaic and a little absurd.
I actually prefer names like'Dequan","Tanisha","Javonne" or"Sharnice"over "Betty Sue""Mary Beth""Joe Bob"or "Lou Ann".Just more melodic and sweeter off the tongue.
The problem lies in the fact that the"creative"names many blacks give their kids often serves as sure giveaway that these are "Black"names and one study showed that job resumes mailed in with names like Deandre Jackson ot Tamika Washington were over two and half more times likely to be rejected than names like Shane Wellington or Megan Riley.
Something to think about.

Indeed!! Praise be to the Lord above!
WGST radio in Atlanta reported at 6:30 PM that the kidnapping was definitely NOT a random act. Read between the lines.
