Internet Ads Go After Cheney's Daughter
ELIZABETH WOLFE
Associated Press
WASHINGTON - A campaign to compel the vice president's lesbian daughter to oppose a proposed ban on gay marriage is launching its first Internet ad on Monday.
A series of simply animated cartoon panels features stick figures of Mary Cheney and Vice President Dick Cheney. One image reads, "Dick's daughter sold out to help Dick run again."
The story line refers to Mary Cheney's job as director of vice presidential operations for the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign. She held a public role as her father's assistant in the 2000 campaign and helped the GOP recruit homosexual voters during the 2002 midterm elections. She has been less visible this year while traveling with the vice president or working at campaign headquarters in Arlington, Va.
President Bush, meanwhile, has disturbed many gays, Republicans included, by asking Congress to move on a constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage in the United States.
"They've clearly made the decision to keep her in the closet for this campaign," said John Aravosis, who in February launched the Web-based campaign www.DearMary.com, which started running the ad on Friday. "They clearly understand the contradiction between having a lesbian run the vice president's campaign at the same time they want to bash gays in the Constitution."
Nicolle Devenish, communications director for the Bush campaign, called Mary Cheney "a tremendous asset to the campaign" and dismissed such tactics as going after a politician's offspring.
"I think any group's actions are going to speak for themselves," she said.
Devenish said Mary Cheney will become more visible as the election nears, though she would not comment whether the vice president's daughter would be reaching out to gay voters or Republicans who oppose the amendment.
Among sites running the ads are WashingtonPost.com, the satirical newspaper The Onion and several liberal Web blogs, Aravosis said.
He said $23,000 has been raised to launch the ads, which could last a week or more depending on funding. But the majority of the costs - at least $50,000, he said - has been donated in services by an advertising firm and a Web advocacy firm that support the message.

The DemoRats disgust me.
I think you have pretty accurately summed it up. I think, though, that the daughter of Dick and Lynne Cheney probably has learned a thing or two from her parents about how to handle this kind of crap....
The self named "party of tolerance" are actually the least tolerant people on the planet.
The self named "party of tolerance" are actually the least tolerant people on the planet.
Democrat, muslim, Borg, not much difference really.
same sex marriage hell!!!
anyone that has been married more than 6 months is either in a "same sex" marriage or a "no more sex" marriage.
queers and lezzies are just queers and lezzies...they are like spoiled children at a birthday party...even though it isn't their birthday, they throw a fit for presents and to be the center of attention.
Yeah, they're so open minded... as long as you agree with them.
They're just mad that they haven't been able to use Mary Cheney as a "useful idiot" the way they used to use Patti Davis.
Actually, they're just human beings. Some are good and some are bad... just like everyone else.
bump!
Hey, CJ, since this thread is about how the Dems are being intolerant regarding Mary Cheney, is your oh-so-enlightened post your way of announcing you are coming out of the closet as a Dem?
Talk about throwing a fit to get attention!
nope...
A characteristic of a cult is that the family must be rejected and disassociated for the sake of the cult. The true character of the homosexuals' effects on their group members needs to be more thoroughly analyzed and reported. We know they give AIDS to their members; but what do they take from them?
The Downside from the Republican side...there is no downside.
< Democrat, muslim, Borg, not much difference really. >
At least the Borg allow you to assimilate.
Please - do not tell me, and I certainly will not ask.
That's the best that came out of Clintoon's 8 years.
That's all I ask of the homosexual movement. I do not approve, but I can't chase them with a stick, either...
I also will not call it "gay"- that is just putting a new name on something in the attempt to make it more acceptable. If you want to talk about "gay marriage" then you have to call it "homosexual marriage"; insist on being precise.
And many could care less about the marraige issue. Al Rantel(KABC LA talk radio host) says so, him I believe, he's gay.
Allow my ass, resistance is futileLOL!
"anyone that has been married more than 6 months is either in a "same sex" marriage or a "no more sex" marriage."
Speak for yourself!
"queers and lezzies are just queers and lezzies...they are like spoiled children at a birthday party...even though it isn't their birthday, they throw a fit for presents and to be the center of attention."
I know some people who are gay, and I like them a whole lot more than I like bigots!
Dear John.
I wish you were still in the closet.
Assh*le!
As Rush says, "Follow the money". It's all about being eligible for Social Security benefits, medical insurance, etc. Another way to stick it to the American taxpayer.
GRRRRRR....ARAVOSIS! Another one of those names that makes me seethe with anger.
Aravosis is a PR wizard and a former aide to Sen. Ted 'You will never convict Bill Clinton even with all the evidence' Stevens as well as Madeleine Albright. He began the somewhat successful campaign smearing Dr. Laura Schlessinger (StopDrLaura.com) because of her truthful definition of homosexuality as "deviant."
This guy is nothing short of vicious. Here is a link to a message he posted to a gay activist USENET group after the first-day numbers for hits on StopDrLaura were tabulated. It shows a plan to disrupt the lives of DLS and Paramount studio executives.
There are more examples of Aravosis' work listed on my Links page. When you get there, hit Ctrl+F and type in "Laura".
Doesn't this sort of hate alienate many gay people? Many gays will vote on national security and economic health grounds--this sort of liberal intolerance may just push them over the edge to support the President.
Not some -- most! And they've been Domestic Enemies for a long time now, as far as I'm concerned.
Btw, are you aware that Nancy Pelosi -- the United States Congressional House Democratic Leader -- is a card-carrying member of the "Democratic Socialists of America" (DSA), as are many of her Demoncrat congressional colleagues? The DSA organization is committed to turning America into a full-fledged "Socialist" state. (Read that as "Communist" state, because that is their ultimate goal. Only they realize that people are far less receptive to the term "Communist" than they are to the term "Socialist").
You can take a look at the DSA's Web site at: http://www.dsausa.org
They used to list their membership rolls on their Web site until they realized it really wasn't something they wanted to broadcast to the apathetic public. Fortunately for us, though Web archives like WaybackMachine.org, you can still see the old DSA Web pages.
For example, from the Apr 29, 1999 archives, you will find the DSA's "Progressive Caucus" Executive Committee list and the DSA's "Progressive Caucus" Members list. You can also find a list of the "dozens of progressive organizations [that] have joined forces with the Congressional Progressive Caucus". Here are a few of the more recognizable organizations that have "joined forces" with the Democratic Socialists of America:
National Education Association (the largest and most powerful union in America, of which every public school teacher is a member)
National Organization for Women (NOW)
AFL-CIO
Amnesty International
National Rainbow Coalition
Human Rights Watch
Brookings Institute
Center for the Advancement of Public Policy
Friends of the Earth
Institute for Women's Policy Research
International Labor Rights Fund
NETWORK: A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby
United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America
Leadership Conference on Civil Rights
Citizens for Tax Justice
Catholic Charities
National Council of Negro Women
Center for Law and Social Policy
Children's Defense Fund
Child Welfare League
Urban League
Economic Policy Institute
Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare
Veterans for Peace
U.S. Commission on Civil Rights
UNITE
National Council of Senior Citizens
Consumer's Union
