Malone: It's OK to Poke Fun at Religion

NEW YORK - Actress Jena Malone (news) says she doesn't feel bad about the way her new film, 'Saved' pokes fun at Christians.

"I think it's important to poke fun at things we find really serious," the 19-year-old said in an interview with AP Radio. "I think if we applied that to things in our own lives we'd be able to take things much better."

"Saved!" costarring Mandy Moore (news) and Macaulay Culkin (news), is a sharp satire of religion which takes place at the fictional American Eagle Christian High School. Malone's character, Mary, believes her figure-skater boyfriend is gay and becomes pregnant with his child to "convert" him to heterosexuality.

One part of the movie that did bother her was the scene in which she fires a gun at a shooting range. Malone says she was hit in the ankle with a stray BB when she was 6.

"It was totally harmless. It wasn't point blank or anything," she said. "At the time it was horrendous, but now there's not even a scar."

"Saved!" is currently in theaters.

Why? I think she's got the right idea. Christians should have a sense of humor, even about their own faiths. Hell, I'm Catholic, and I love to tell Catholic jokes.

There's a huge difference between poking fun at your own religion now and then and BEING MOCKED. The movie SAVED mocks young religious people.

That might happen if some screenwriter actually reads some of MLK's writings...

The purpose of this movie is NOT to make jokes, but to DESTROY religion, morals, and the cohesion of the United States!

Read Antonio Gramsci's plan on how to destroy us!

Not exactly a blockbuster. Gee I wonder why people aren't watching it. The producers actually tried to market the film to people of faith. That's kinda like selling Ann Coulter books to DUmmies.

I wonder if see would do a film that mocked a more fashionable (with her set) religion? Such as the religion of homosexuality or the religion of "therapy"? I don't think so. Those are what Hollywood takes seriously, and she wouldn't "poke fun at them" with a ten foot pole.

Got that right. Its production budget was only $5 million and it still isn't turning a profit. I bet it cost another $2-$3 million for marketing.

Probably because I have seen far more advertising for the movie on FR than anywhere else. Had it not been for FR, I would have probably never heard of it at all. It's not exactly recieved a boatlaod of promotion, and it has still made a profit domestically; overseas it should make more, and with DVDs more still.

The purpose of this movie is to DESTROY religion, morals, and the cohesion of the United States? Really? A low budget movie with no FX or major stars or car chases, stunts, gunfights, strippers or any of the other trappings that give a movie a shot at a fairly large audience? It's purpose is to destroy religion? Wow. Pretty tall order.

Christians do have a sense of humor. Remember Jim and Tammy-Faye?

At any rate, from what I've read, the producers of this film believe it's the answer to the "hype" surrounding "The Passion" and they wanted to take it down a notch or two. It was produced as a slap against Christianity, and they attempt to pass off false messages of non-conformity and other idiocies.

The story is about a girl named Mary who finds out her boyfriend is gay. She dreams she has a vision of Jesus telling her to seduce him and "save" him from homosexuality. Instead, she winds up pregnant and then the themes of tolerance and comformity are supposed to kick in.

Actually they stirred up a lot of interest in the film, positive and negative by stating their intent. Lots of free publicity. Whatever, the movie cost 5 million to make and has earned as much in the first weekend. I suspect we'd best prepare for more of the same.

One of my father's favorite movies was "Paint Your Wagon", a musical depicting a woman who winds up with two husbands.

My brother-in-law, a Mormon, was very offended - seeing the movie as a subtle slap at Mormons and their practice of polygamy.

All I can say is that if you want to poke fun at other people's sacred cows, you shouldn't be intolerant when others poke fun at yours.

Hey, Hollywood! How about making a rip-roaring satire of homosexual AIDS patients? Or environmental extremists? Or Operation P.U.S.H.? When will we see these knee-slapping send-ups?

Had a great little Catholic nun in school (and one of my best teachers ever). She went wild and ran up and down the aisles sprinkling us with holy water when we were bad. By the end of the year, she was shaking like a leaf. We felt bad as we thought we caused it.

Turned out that she was developing Parkinson's. We felt better and went on to our next Nun victim!!

It's only a movie...... ???

"...E. Both Capitalism and Judaeo-Christian culture must be destroyed before a Communist revolution can succeed "

Antonio Gramsci, 1891-1937
Focus on Freedom
C L Steplock

In 1919 an Italian socialist named Antonio Gramsci began to publish a newspaper in Milan called, L'Ordine Nuovo, or "The New Order." Loosely rendered, he concluded that the average person would never voluntarily reject the faith and culture of the West. He concluded that the best way to implement a collectivist government was to use an intellectual elite to destroy traditional values by attacking fundamental Jewish and Christian beliefs.

Antonio Gramsci, 1891-1937

...A. The New Order (L'Ordine Nuovo)
......1. Italian Communist newspaper, founded 1919
......2. Co-founder of Italian Communist Party, 1921
......3. Pre-Prison Writings, ed. Richard Bellamy (Cambridge, 1994)
......4. Selections from the Prison Notebooks (Intl. Publishers, 1971)

...B. Lenin was wrong, and the Leninist revolution will fail
......1. The workers will see the revolutionary government as a new boss
......2. When the revolution fails, the west will re-import Capitalism

...C. Gradual revolution through infiltration & subversion by revolutionaries
......1. Infiltrate the State: elective & appointed office; judgeships
......2. Infiltrate the military: enlist & subvert from within
......3. Infiltrate justice: undermine and discredit state constitutions
......4. Infiltrate education: professors & administrators
......5. Infiltrate & discredit religion: scoundrels as clergymen
......6. Register, then license, then confiscate all privately held weapons

...D. Form or infiltrate international organizations to promote goals such as "global understanding," "economic development," "transfer of resources"

...E. Both Capitalism and Judaeo-Christian culture must be destroyed before a Communist revolution can succeed
......1. Religious sentiment cannot be destroyed through legislation, as Lenin believed, but must be redirected from the divine to the state
.........a. Terror will only drive Religion underground
.........b. Religion will then reemerge when Leninism fails
.........c. So Religion must be destroyed in the minds of men

......2. Infiltrate religious academies and become priests and clergymen
.........a. Subtly promote heresy within religious organizations
.........b. Infiltrators must act so as to discredit the church
............(1) Cause financial and sexual scandals
............(2) See that this is given a high profile in the news
............(3) Like-minded infiltrators in the media will cooperate

......3. Once religion is discredited from within, continuously promote the idea that only the state can solve the problems that have been traditionally brought before the church

...F. When propagating revolutionary ideas, cloak them in polite terms
......1. National Consensus
......2. Popular Mandate
......3. National Pacification
......4. Pluralism
......5. Global Community
......6. Economic Justice
......7. Economic Democracy
......8. Liberation Theology
......9. Direct Action

It is OK to poke fun at and belittle Christians and things Christian! But, anything else, anything Jewish, Muslim or sacred Indian, is offensive and prohibited.

This stems for the old communists and goes through the neocommunists of today. Christianity must be weakened by any means available. One way to do this is to give other religions, no matter how false or fake, superior standing.

I remember when everyone was attacking "The Life of Brian" as being anti religion. It was actually an hysterically funny movie and more of a satire on religious films than about religion itself. I understand this movie doesn't poke fun at Christianity so much as a certain type of christian. Although I do find this young actress self involved, which is fairly typical for the Hollywood set.

Dear Jena Malone,

Aply this to your life. You take your freedom really serious. I would like to poke fun at your freedom and say you really should not have the right to live freely. In fact, I think your parents taught you terrible stuff that is hate filled. I think they are hippocrites in what they told you and what they really did. I think that your beliefs are really about enslaving others you do not like. You have a hidden agenda to hurt people. I know that you secretly celebrate when baby seals are clubbed, and when dolphins get caught in nets. You say you care about animals, but you wear fur undergarments. Hey I poked fun at what you take really serious.
