How do you define "rational discourse"? Supporting the rewarding of amnesty and jobs to criminals whose first acts on our soil were to break the law?

If I did, would it stop someone bent on killing me ? Would it even slow them down ?
So you DON'T lock your door? Please answer the freeper's question.

Medved's narrow point of not pulling troops from Iraq is sound. However, we have plenty of troops in Bosnia and Kosovo that could, instead of protecting militant Muslims, actually protect American borders.
Unfortunately, Medved seems to think that everyone hopping over our border seems to come here with only the best of motives (i.e. watching his kids, cutting his grass and washing his car for far less money and benefits than someone here legally). However, this Pollyanish view ignores the large proportion of illegal immigrants in our prison system, at both the state and federal level. It also ignores the smuggling rings that have been uncovered catering to Middle Easterners. If someone wanted to fly totally below the radar, doesn't it make sense that they would come over illegally rather than risk our (theoretically) heightened security with visas and legal points of entry?
In the end, Medved, like many others who style themselves conservative, reminds me of the basketball coach who once opined that losing is like being raped: it's going to happen anyway, so you might as well sit back and enjoy it. However, unlike Mr. Medved and the others who do not care about (or possibly even profit from) the surrender of America's borders, some of us don;t feel like just sitting back back.

Yes, it would slow them down. Hopefully long enough for you to arm yourself and call police.

This guy still hasn't answered whether he locks his doors. And of course, that's because he DOES lock his doors - - - which makes his position that borders can't be defended look a little silly, to be generous!

Nobody has the political balls to do the right thing, the oh so obvious thing: seal the borders & develop technology to allow for the necessary cross-border movement.
Nobody gets in w/o passport or a vetted visa for legitimate reason, then require periodic contact with the appropriate security agency.
Oops, sorry, NAFTA & fruit pickers, grass cutters & chicken gutters are more important, right?

I do think we can keep most of new illegals out, but saying we can just ship away all the ones we have is gounded in fantasy. Why can't anyone see a way of getting rid of them other than putting them on buses? Remove their reason to come here, and they'll even pay for the buses themselves. No welfare (including tuition breaks and that sort of thing), no medical care beyond emergency stabilization and severe, punishing, business-threatening fines for employers caught hiring illegals.

There are many good reasons to get control of our borders, and almost none not too. Unfortunately, the bad reasons (pandering) are driving out the good ones.

The Zogby poll reported September 16, 2001 that 77% of Americans do not think our government is doing enough to control our borders or screen foreign visitors.

Do you lock your door? If I did, would it stop someone bent on killing me ? Would it even slow them down ?
You artfully avoided answering my question. People lock their doors as a deterrent, even if the tactic isn't foolproof. It discourages casual offenders, and yes, it does slow down even those bent on killing you. Bunkers and barricades are known tools of war for a reason. Tanks lock from the inside. Certainly in these cases, someone is bent on killing the occupants.
Don't you lock your door?

I heard a lot of that segment. To be fair to Medved the question was, what would bringing our troops home from "over there" do to the war to defend against and defeat radical Islam? Simple ans: it would make matters worse.
There is no question in my mind that it would encourage radical Islam and add to their view that the U.S. government has no will to fight. Some callers simply suggested that having troops on the borders would help and were slow in answering, what about keeping the war "over there," isn't that much better than having the war here? Besides, ILLEGALs entering by sneaking across the border did not hijack those planes.
Now, I disagree with Medved, et al. that ILLEGAL immigration is not a problem and I do not welcome those who come here to "wash dishes for six dollars an hour" as Medved stated a few days ago. He thinks it's great apparently.
There is that pesky matter that we are suppose to be a nation of laws not men. Men (greedy traitors to our borders and sovereignty) laugh at our laws to get "cheap" labor that ain't so cheap for everybody else.

So you DON'T lock your door? Please answer the freeper's questionYes, but only to satisfy my wife.
To: RKV
Yes, it would slow them down. Hopefully long enough for you to arm yourself and call police10 seconds or less to kick the door open or to break the slider isn't going to help.
To: VRWC_minion
You understand the concept of door, right? It's the big wooden thing that closes and keeps what's in in and what's out out. If your door wouldn't slow someone down, maybe you have some problems with your house that you should take care of before you go freeping.

Which is why the gold repository at Fort Knox has no walls, guards or alarms. DuhThe vault of gold under the WTC was effectively destroyed. Listen, there is absolutely none, zero, nada example in histroy of someone building a wall big and strong enough to protect it from an enemy. There are numerous examples of nations that relied on them which were destroyed. Did it occur to you why castles are no longer contructed ?

Sure as hell will at my house, since by then, me, Smith and Wesson are going to be ready.
