Read my statement again, and ponder the meaning of the word "if".
Whoever is beheaded first wins.
You read my statement again. You owe this man's family a letter of appology.
Whoever is beheaded first wins."
A man is dead. What a tripe comment.
Absolutely. I was shooting the bull with my girlfriend's father today, an old soldier who emigrated from Vietnam after the communists took over. He said the VC feared the RoK soldiers greatly because if they were shot at by one communist in a field, the RoK soldiers would chase down and kill every living thing in sight without any selectivity. Fearless, ruthless, and without mercy.
In his opinion, the Iraqi terrorists have no idea who they are dealing with in the South Koreans, a completely different animal than the Americans and British. The RoK soldiers will make no pretense of playing nice and will be far more relentless than we are in running the jihadis into the ground.
Once again, the idiots in the Middle East have bitten off more than they can chew.
I don't owe anybody anything. I said "if" and that was based upon an unknown at the time, and I explicitly acknowledged that it was an unknown.
Save your hostility for the jihadis.
Yes, this is abhorrent, it sucks and it's traumatic for everyone exposed to it. Tensions mount. However, the more they do it, the more they will drive themselves farther into the lunatic fringe.
As bad as it is, the end result is to discredit the cause of these terrorists.
Flame on if it makes you feel better, it certainly doesn't make the thread any more useful to anyone else.
The South Koreans had two divisions in Viet Nam. According to my girlfriend's father, who worked with them occasionally (he's Vietnamese), they were the most feared troops in Viet Nam. The slightest sign of communists and they would kill a village, man, woman, and child, the most efficiently ruthless soldiers on either side.
You do NOT want to piss them off. They will be relentless and give no quarter to anyone who even looks like the enemy.
Yup. The jihadis have managed to galvanize Korean public sentiment against them far better than a year's worth of political speeches.
Kim Sun-il did not die in vain. His death will help all Koreans understand that what they face is nothing less than pure, dark evil, and that they must fight it or suffer his fate.
It's a disgusting trend, but in their desperation, the terrorists are digging their own graves.
But I'm not just randomly flaming thoughtomator. As much as he would like to suggest he was fair and added the conditional statement "if", I suggest you read his comments over the course of this thread.
I see this type of thing on FR enought that I had to say something. We are supposed to be better than this.
I'm done with this thread.
I'm afraid it appears we were wrong and I'm sorry that we are. I do think, however, that if we refuse to give in to these people and they consistently feel the consequences of their murderous actions that they will eventually change tactics.
The backlash is already building. Now that the world is getting a clearer picture of who these people really are, it will tend to unite more readily to destroy them.
I think they really, really blew it with the beheadings gambit, and they will come to sorely regret it.
