"Leftist Lies, Distortions, and other Subtleties (of the Main Stream Media)"

Daily Activism Thread

Good Day FReepers!

Have you ever read a story or watched a news program and were ready to pull out you hair because of the obvious leftwing bias or outright distortion of the piece? Well now you have a chance to counter this leftist crapola! Read on and you will see!

This thread is to post, discuss, and dispute the leftist propagandist's attempt to use deceptive terminology and biased reporting to counter the War on Terrorism.

Here is how it will work.

First, all you have to do to participate is look for biased reporting by the mainstream media and post the most egregious examples here along with the source such as authors name, news agency or network and any contact info that you can find. Even if you can't find contact info please post the stories!

Make sure you post a link to the story even you are not sure how to do html. You can cut and paste it in normal text. Someone will take it and make it a link if you can get the address in your post.

Then we need to get as many people as possible to write, fax and phone. Letters to the editors work great also faxes and phone calls are equally effective and don't forget snail mail.

Also if you are a blogger then by all means this is a great way to expose the leftists and don't forget the little Google tricks that can be played. If we get enough bloggers working on the same subject the power of google will take over.

And any of you professional writers and frequent guests on the talk show circuit. You can use this thread as your one stop ammo depot. We will gather the propaganda to this thread and you can have at them in your professional capacities.

Don't forget your ping lists and use them to drive as many FReepers as possible to this thread. We need numbers to refute the leftists.

OK let us review:

1. Post the Propaganda (Don't forget to link and any contact info you can find)

2. Send email, fax, phone, and snail mail the author or newsperson. You don't have to do all of them just one will be fine but the more the better!

3. Bloggers blog away! Use the info we post and then we can use google to our advantage.

4. Pros (writers and talk show commentators) use this handy resource as your one stop listing of media bias.

5. Ping your ping lists to this thread! We need numbers to counter the leftist crapola. And, don’t forget to notify Rush, Hannity, PJ O'Rourke, Ann Coulter, O'Reilly, and all the other right-minded folks!

Ok let us get to it!

TOPICS: Constitution/Conservatism; Politics/Elections

I object to the destruction of Google as a tactic.
We should not be as petty as they are.

OK first up a story by our good friends at Reuters:

Militants Decapitate South Korean Hostage in Iraq

By Andrew Marshall

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Militants beheaded a South Korean hostage in Iraq (news - web sites) on Tuesday after Seoul refused their demand to withdraw its troops and scrap plans to send more...

Well well militants ehh? Not Terrorists? How nice.

Further down in the piece: U.S. and Iraqi officials say insurgents are stepping up a campaign of assassinations, bomb attacks and economic sabotage in Iraq to try to disrupt the formal handover of sovereignty to an Iraqi interim government on June 30.

Insurgents now. not even terrorists In fact I can't find the word terrorists anywhere in the piece.

BTW when I google Andrew Marshall I get this interesting tidbit:

Reuters Stands by Iraq Abuse Reports, Releases Timeline on Incident

Andrew is mentioned in the piece. Maybe he has an ax to grind? OK so here is the link that will allow you to voice your opinion on the piece: How To Contact Us

Then click on Contact a Reuters Editor

OK LETS ROLL!

For the 64th day, the mainstream media wails about panties on the terrorist's heads.

The beheadings get one or two days each.

Panties are, in the minds of the left, horrendous and deserve front page attention for months.

Brutal murders of civilians from many countries and their subsequent beheadings and mutilations are not nearly as bad and therefore get one or two days on page six.

The liberal media sucks out loud and is as un-American as you can get.

Here is my first reply to the editors at Reuters:

In a story filed by Andrew Marshall, titled Militants Decapitate South Korean Hostage in Iraq the story describes the perpetrators of this heinous act as militants. Later in the piece, these groups are called insurgents, guerrilla and captors, never is the word terrorist used. Why is this?

These cowards abducted a civilian and then cut his head off. These animals are not noble warriors they are deranged nut jobs claiming to perform their cowardly acts in the name of God.

Do you people have to help their cause by lending them legitimacy with your carefully chosen words? Are you afraid to call them by their true names?

Come on say it with me: Terrorists.

Now don't you feel better?

A concerned reader.

Liberal media bias??

No, no material there. [/sarcasm]

Can I start with my beef about CNN?

I went out to Mojave Ca. to see Rutan's space ship launch yesterday. I heard that CNN was the only decent coverage, so when I got home last night, I went over to CNN Headline News to see what they had.

The first instant I hit the channel, they had on "new pictures of US atrocities at Abu Grab". I hit the clicker in 500 milliseconds flat.

I went back a few minutes later, and they were talking endlessly about Memos from Rumsfeld that hadn't even been released yet and no one knew what they would say, but obviously it was something bad don't ya know.

I left again.

When I dared go back, they teased the spacecraft launch with video from inside the cockpit at zero g. Great! They said it would be after the commercial.

Right after the commerial, they droned on again for at least 10 minutes about the Rumsfeld memos that had (still) not been released. Including anchor questions of the reporter about how this will affect Bush. When they FINALLY got around the the launch, they put a 2 second image of the contrail of the chase plane at 40 thousand feet, and a 2 second image of the landing, and said a "civilian spacecraft was launched this morning".

Back to the leftist propaganda.

That's all I could stand. I was drained.

It's no wonder CNN's ratings are tanking. No one really likes to hear that crap. Even if they hate Bush, it's just not really good TV to keep showing different poses of the same prisoners they showed two months ago.

Oh, yes, they said that the US had corrected the statistics, and we have had slightly more terrorism than they originally thought we had (3 day old news).

And it was Bush's fault. (no, they didn't say that, but I heard it anyway)

OK here is another:

Bush Claimed Right to Waive Torture Laws

By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) claimed the right to waive anti-torture laws and treaties covering prisoners of war after the invasion of Afghanistan (news - web sites), and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld authorized guards to strip detainees and threaten them with dogs, according to documents released Tuesday.

________________________________________________________________

That is Paragraph one of the story but, as we scroll down in the piece we find out that:

________________________________________________________________ Bush had outlined his own views in a Feb. 7. 2002, document regarding treatment of al-Qaida detainees from Afghanistan. He said the war against terrorism had ushered in a "new paradigm" and that terrorist attacks required "new thinking in the law of war." Still, he said prisoners must be treated humanely and in accordance with the Geneva Conventions.

"I accept the legal conclusion of the attorney general and the Department of Justice (news - web sites) that I have the authority under the Constitution to suspend Geneva as between the United States and Afghanistan, but I decline to exercise that authority at this time," the president said in the memo, entitled "Humane Treatment of al-Qaida and Taliban Detainees." ________________________________________________________________

The headline and the first paragraph of the story is very damning on the president yet when you get down to the above paragraphs we find that President Bush had ordered the prisoners to be treated humanely.

Now, you see how it works the left will grab onto this story and announce that President Bush Claimed Right to Waive Torture Laws citing this story and conveniently leaving out the paragraphs that show Bush in no way ordered torture.

See how easy it all is to skew story so the folks who don't pay lots of attention are fooled. So lets get at em guys.

Parents need to watch the media that elementary schools issue. What follows is a letter our elementary student wrote to her school paper; the letter did NOT get published.

"Our class reads “Time For Kids” (TFK) and assumes it tells the truth, but sometimes it does not. ... A recent story on global warming said carbon dioxide is getting into the atmosphere, making our planet a dangerously warmer place. However, a lot of scientists just do not believe this and say there is no evidence of global warming. A recent NASA study says some climate forecasts might be exaggerating estimates of global warming.

TFK says pollution leads to global warming, but the Weather Channel says “Throughout history, there have been large -- and sometimes sudden -- climate changes -- most of them before humans could possibly have been a factor.”

TFK also plays politics. The global warming article said, “President Bush has refused to sign the [Kyoto] treaty.” True, but TFK did NOT point out the treaty was on Clinton’s desk when he was President and did nothing about it. Nor did TFK mention Kerry voted AGAINST any global warming treaty that did not also put limits on developing countries.

Let’s find a class newspaper that gives us both sides of such stories! In the meantime, if you see the movie “The Day After Tomorrow,” remember there is a reason it is called science FICTION!"
