FREEP this high school principal (as he abridges freedom of speech to a young conservative)
protestwarrior.com ^ | 2004 | Bryan Henderson

Posted on 06/22/2004 10:45:04 PM PDT by Mississippi Individual

Long story short... high school kid posts conservative messages, has messages torn down, is violently threatened by adults and students, gets appointment with principal, principal starts to realize his freedoms but finally yields to fanatics.

Read the whole story, but we must freep this man as he, after seeming reasonable, yielded to the fear of violent opposition.

Impressive story. I wouldn't come down too hard on the principal, he's just trying to walk a fine line...he just stumbled a bit to the wrong side.

As an aside, I'm working on a MA in ED and at the moment planning on teaching in public schools. I read a statistic that said principals spend on average nearly 25% of each week dealing with legal issues...this being just one sort of them. It's not a pretty job.

Well look at the photos. The guy is posting stuff over classroom charts, etc. Not even on a blank wall. The discretion is a bit lacking.

Though it IS funny.

I would have suggested printing big sheet magnets and sticking them on the front of his locker, rotating them from time to time.

She then stated that while she could see that I had strong political convictions and that a small group of students would understand the signs, most of them were "rednecks" that wouldn't get the meaning and would only laugh at the mocking of Arabs.

Does the hypocrisy ever end? "Rednecks?" A sign can't have the word "Arab", which isn't a racial slur, but she can say "rednecks"?

Her response: "It isn't a racial slur, it's honesty!"

Before I applaud this effort, I need to know if it was in proportion to the indoctrination. The way that young Mr. Henderson is portraying it, it doesn't read like that. But I could be wrong.

Bryan Henderson is a heckuva smart kid, but he's a bit brash. I wonder if he listens to Michael Savage, another smart but often too abrasive guy.

The following Tuesday, the principal finally handed down his verdict. Unfortunately, he decided to "err on the side of caution" and would not allow me to post my signs. He said that the Iraqi war and the other issues in the signs do not directly affect the school or its students. But he did allow me to distribute them at lunch to any and all students who were interested

This is alarming. I don't doubt the principal said it but it's a good indicator of the state of our eduction system. In a few months some of their students who just graduated could be fighting in the Middle East. All of their new graduates are now living in the real world in some capacity or other. This does directly affect them.

She told me I knew nothing about Islam, because I am not Muslim and she is. ( referring to an argument he had with a student's mother )

Funny part is that they both lived in an Islamic country, she would be quickly hauled away and possibly put in a nut hatch, unless her family was well connected.

His signs are priceless. Maybe, he can get them out in another way. I love the one with the cute girls saying how the liberation of Iraq is too expensive.:) Best of luck to him for a great future!

I think the way he had posted the signs is wrong. I agree there is a major problem with the schools and liberal teachings. Sometimes I feel I have to de-program the kids when they get home. I fear if those signs can be posted everywhere, then the next sign will be from a leftist kid denigrating Bush and his policies. It is a no win situation. I wouldn't want my son and daughter walking down the hall with negative signs of Bush up. Liberal policies shouldn’t be taught in schools. That's the point he should now take and run with now that he has the attention. Bring the point home that the reason for placing the signs was due to the bombardment of leftist teaching in the class rooms. How frustrating it is hearing all of the leftist one-sided teachings in the classrooms. Call a paper and a local tv station. Who knows, maybe he can go on television and radio.

The signs, which were being posted all over, although I fully support what they express, are wrong. The reasoning of the School administration and how they handled it, is ridiculous. Some school admin. Resorted to the racism tactic. How sad that is!

Better than my brother's high school graduation, where the valedictorian spent her 5 minutes in the spotlight railing against "our unjust war" and unfavorably commented on the military, pro-lifers, and anyone who has religious faith.

Meanwhile my brother, and several other classmates, are bucking the local trend and enlisting in the military. Imagine how it felt to have the official approved speech at their graduation talking about the evil of the military!

Given that she was already ruining the ceremony, boos and hisses would have been appropriate. Then the little darling's composure would have been lost and her true colors and character would have shown. I am one for decency and decorum but would not hesitate to boo loudly in such a circumstance.

They took out my "hush-&-mush" gland. That's the one that (used to) tell me to keep my yap shut and just move along. Now I'm an equal-opportunity annoyer...

Dear God, I've turned into my father. The horror...the horror...

Well, obviously it wasn't a lobotomy, was it?

But we may suppose that it's a good sign that you're at least well enough to be ornery.

Now that you've shared with us what really irritates you, there are probably some good sports in here who will now grate away with jovial abandon.

Hang in there!

RE #11:

"This was a public high school in Northeast Ohio, between Akron and Cleveland, where people still get it."

Good for her!

And besides; it was too late to hassle or expel her for her Faith!

I hope she's going to a Christian College, or the next 4 years could be a preview of a coming Tribulation.

Bryan for President! This child is truly amazing. Oh that we had such conservative warriors in D.C. I predict great things for this young man.

Shh. Don't give 'em any ideas.   : )

I think so. Gotta keep up the fighter's spirit and all that good stuff.

Yep, that's for sure. Guess I'll have to treat it like the new 14" ragged suture scar I have on my abdomen: it's repulsive, but eh...I'll get used to it.

Hang in there!

*salute* Sir, yes SIR!

These schmucks are threatening your kids down there in West VIRGINIA, and are still able to walk and see out of both eyes?

Getting pretty bloody "civilized" down there, ain't ya?

Have they tried this bilge down in Mississippi or Alabama yet?

Where did all the Rebels go? Looks like Washington's got y'all pretty well whupped into submission down there.

Never thought I'd see the day, frankly.

Hope you don't mind if I steal a Cal Thomas Quote from the FEDERALIST, but it seems to fit here.

Included is my commentary that I added in an E-Mailing to a number of contacts.

Heroes Remembered... Or a Legacy Lost?

Here we just dedicated the National WW-II Memorial in Washington DC... but are the Memories of those perilous times and of those who endured or perished in the struggle, ultimately earning the hard-won Victory, to be passed on to succeeding generations of Americans?

It seems that there are those among us who intend for those collective memories to be at best very "selective", if not utterly distorted, in order to advance their own political or idealogical agendae.

This observation from Cal Thomas just in as part of a regular "Federalist" update:

FEDERALIST Commentary: "Culture" - http://Federalist.com/main/about.asp

"From a May 28 report in The Washington Post, we learned that Tiffany Charles got a 'B' in history last year but is not sure what year World War II ended.

She can't name a single general, or one battle.
Neither is she able to name the president of the United States at the time. ... What DOES young Tiffany know?

...Tiffany can tell you about Japanese-Americans who were sent to internment camps. 'We talked a lot about those concentration camps,' she was quoted as saying.

'Concentration camps'? Those were used by the Nazis and Soviets.

The Post interviewed national education experts, teachers and more than 100 public school students and concluded that Tiffany's limited knowledge of World War II is 'typical of today's youths.'
Is this what we're getting for record education spending: kids who know more about the few wrongs America has committed than they do the many rights?

This girl and apparently many others like her in the monopolistic government schools aren't learning the truth'"

--Cal Thomas

*******

Here in Maine, a vast majority of our confiscatory property taxes go to fund "education".

So.... are we paying all this tribute to "Educate" our young people... or to "Indoctrinate" them?

The Grandfathers, Grammies, Uncles and Aunts who lived through the struggle and who can (if they can bring themselves to) tell their Decendants "How it was" are fast slipping away to rejoin Comrades and Buddies who never got to come home from "The Big One".

(Image of Burial @ Sea)
(Caption)= Rejoining Old ShipMates; USS Enterprise

Apparently the task of bearing the torch of remembrance to the succeeding Generations of Americans is passing from their hands and lips to those of our Public School Teachers and Administrators.

History, I submit to you, is no less than a sacred trust.

Are those whom we hire to bear this trust worthy of it? And if not, then what can and are we to do about it?

For God and Country;
