Nah, they're too old. Anything that dates to before '91 the media doens't consider WMD. Even a Nuke.

Why? It's not like they'll accept it.

Question: Isn't it spelled "Dulfour"?
To: Steven W.
One problem - are they going to say "Oh but this was from the Iran-Iraq war?" If that's the case the media will toss this away.

Remember - the shell that was previously found as an IED was one of the modern "mixer" variety that were not known to be in Saddam's posession prior to 1996.
To: ChuckShick
Let's hope this gets confirmed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it has been confirmed - by Charles Dulfer, head of Iraqi WMD survey group.

Next up: hotel receipts of Mr. O. Bin Laden at the Baghadad Hilton and home movies of him poolside, from July 2001.
Shall we start a pool? About mid October sounds good to me.

We won't hear about it on the evening news.
Instead we'll hear about Smith's Bicycle Center in Toledo, Ohio has laid off 5 workers today
To: traviskicks
The administration should have never allowed them to frame the debate that way.
To: Steven W.
What does "to date" mean? It sounds to me like that means we have been finding them here and there for a while but other than the one on the side of the road, it hasn't been publically announced. That is a much different situation than if we just stumbled across 12 of these today.
Clarify?

Great news, but they could find a THOUSAND dozen and it would never convince the Kool-Aid drinkers.
To: ChuckShick
it will not matter, unless Bush goes to a microphone and asserts the WMD claim - this story will simply be written off as "old shells leftover from the Iran/Iraq war". we all know the spin.
To: traviskicks
Correct. Saddam in possession of WMDs produced BEFORE 1991 is apparently not a threat to the US or the region. I fail to understand the logic of that argument, but what do I know?

LOL Unfortunately, probably true. It's like they won't accept the oil-for-food scandal is real unless they kind a pile of cartoon-like moneybags with dollar signs on the side.
To: Steven W.
At a guess, I'd say the "they were planted" stories that have been on ice for a year and a half are being dusted off at the NY Times...
To: ChuckShick
It may be confirmed, but the media will never carry it.

True, but God forbid if the Kool-Aid drinkers constitute enough people to elect a President. This may have no sway with the media, or the hardened Bush haters, but with MOST Americans, Saddam in possession of any WMDs, in violation of UN resolutions, bolsters Bush's policy, and enhances his chances for re-election.

Bush should have them shipped into Detroits Convention Hall next month. But he won't.
To: Steven W.
Quick. Someone tell the NY Times to save a paragraph on page 17A.
To: Political Junkie Too
And if they're not neatly stacked in the proper pyramid shape, to government specifications, then they are not a stockpile. All you need do is put panties on the tip of one shell, have a dog bark at a second, and have a cigarette-smoking female MP laugh at a third shell, and then the shells can be said to have been tortured by the United States.
Then the DemWits can try and turn this into a scandal for the Bush administration.
Y'see.
