The chairman of the Republican National Committee on Monday called for a bipartisan effort to safeguard polling locations in Missouri and other presidential battleground states against voter fraud.
But a group helping Democrat John Kerry's campaign called the proposal as a “very cynical attempt” to suppress black voter turnout in the state by undermining groups that are working to increase black registration.
While visiting Kansas City, Republican Party Chairman Ed Gillespie cited allegations that groups such as America Coming Together were turning in inaccurate voter registration forms and using convicted felons to go door to door. A spokeswoman for the group called both accusations insignificant.
Gillespie said the allegations underscored the potential for fraud as a “legitimate concern in the upcoming elections.” He outlined a “transparent bipartisan solution” that would involve listing, with Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe, precincts in presidential battleground states where problems might surface.
The two parties would assign volunteers to observe each precinct in addition to the already assigned voting judges from both parties. Members of the news media could stand alongside the teams to watch the voting unfold.
The added safeguard would help assure fair elections, Gillespie said. He distributed a June 15 letter he had sent to McAuliffe outlining his plan, but a Democratic Party spokesman said he could not confirm that McAuliffe had received it.
“I can certainly assure you that if there is a political party in this country committed to ensuring that every vote be counted…it's the Democratic Party,” spokesman Jano Cabrera said.
Sara Howard, a spokeswoman for America Coming Together, defended the voter registration efforts, saying less than 2 percent of the forms submitted had been rejected by a St. Louis election board.
Howard said about a dozen of the group's canvassers in Missouri had felony convictions out of the nearly 100 working for the group. She said none had been convicted of a violent crime, and they pose no threat to the public. The group has begun screening its employees.
“It's pretty clear they are trying to raise questions about the validity of our organization,” Howard said of the Republicans.
Vote fraud is the life blood of democrats electoral victories. Without it they would be a minor player in congress.
And, I'm sure Michael Moore is the only lib/dem registered in two states.....
St. Louis is a place where this election could very well be stolen. We need poll watchers in every one of those precincts.
Okay look. We know the Democrats are going to once again attempt massive vote fraud. They have done it every single election in memory.
What, if anything, is the GOP going to do to put a stop to it this year? It already cost a Senate seat (SD) and caused the Florida fiasco, among other damage. Every year the GOP complains, at varying volume, but never seems to actually do anything about it.
So, what's the plan, guys?

Or a recount in Vt. where counting ALL cast ballots would have reversed the election outcome. I believe it was VT. May have been NH. In 2002 there was a close election and the democrats fought tooth and nail to have a large number of ballots disqualified for minor reasons such as the use of a red pen instead of a black pen. They succeeded in court. Someone please find the articles and FR posts on this matter and post them here. Thanks!

The GOP is too weak kneed and caves as soon as racial accusations are thrown around, or fail to even say anything because they know racial accusations will be leveled.
And they'll do the same this year. They'll whine a bit, the Democrats will scream RACISM! and the GOP will slink away.

This is not news, it is just a reminder.
Without vote fraud, these would not even be battleground states. The long-standing abuse of the local election laws is the only thing that makes the Democrats competitive at the ballot box.
And the most-abused voters? The residents of "minority" wards, who have much of their voting done for them.

Vote fraud and getting the ignorant and uninformed to vote. That's one of the reasons for Motor Voter and MTV's Rock the Vote. If you can get people into the polls who base their decision on what Jay Leno told them or what Madonna said in People Magazine, that can give you that little boost to stay competitive.

I have no doubt that over 1,000,000 votes per Presidential election year....are a fraud....for either party. I had a friend tell me about a relative who went out and requested a absentee ballot for his old aunt. The old lady is in a nursing home and is completely wacko...not capable of understanding anything. Yet this character gets a absentee ballot for her and gets her fixed to vote Republican. This is fraud no matter how you look at. At least 2,000,000 Americans ought not be voting because they are mentally incapble of understanding anything....and we aren't even doing anything about that problem.
Where vote fraud may take place: Philadelphia, PA ; Broward & Duval counties, FL; NJ to name a few.
This is why Republicans must make sure that we have poll watchers at every precinct or at the very least, ones where the Rats will do their best to commit fraud.
Don't forget the voter fraud capital of the U.S. The cemeteries of Chicago, Illinois.
Vote fraud in Philly? You have to be kidding. The residents of Philly are so patriotic and eager to exercise their right to vote that they turn out in greater than 100% of registered voters.
And the media---in 2000 they were still capable of the obvious blunder of predicting before polls closed. Want to bet they haven't learned? This time around they'll be more brazen, and more selective in reporting every accusation of irregularity.
We're in deep trouble.
