WOULD YOU ENLIST TODAY, TO JOIN THE WAR ON TERROR, IF THE MILITARY WOULD HAVE YOU?
self | 6-29-2004 | self - vanity - poll

Posted on 06/29/2004 1:44:09 PM PDT by BagCamAddict

If there were no restrictions on age, weight, fitness, etc., would you sign up to join the War on Terror??

This is a vanity poll, due to the news today that the Army may be dipping into the Individual Ready Reserve pool. Several Freepers have indicated they would go if called upon, but they don't think they will be called due to their age.

Please post ONLY ONCE, and ONLY IF YOU WOULD GO, so that we can easily see the tally by looking at the number of replies.

I'd join in a heartbeat if I could use my mind and not my body - and by that I mean sit in an office far from the fighting and not be in any danger of getting killed.

AGE 45 NAVY VET

My (WWII Navy vet) Dad talked me into joining the Navy like he did, so I would "never have to sleep in a foxhole". If I could snap my fingers and be 18 years old, I would join the Marines right now. Sorry Dad, I said the nasty Marine word.

No can do. The terrorists would end up paying us to take him back.

That's the idea. We keep giving Franken to 'em, they keep paying us to take the weasel back. We then finance the war against terror with the terrorists' money.

O.Henry would be proud.

"No, if the President asked for volunteers today I would not step forward."

"Good. There are other ways to serve your country. We still don't have enough backseat drivers and armchair generals. Somebody's gotta do it!"

wimpycat, you nailed it, pardner! We have to have those around that are more than willing to let someone else do the heavy lifting for them. You know....besides the cany-arsed French surrender monkeys, that is....

I am afraid that if they would take me, the cause is completely and irrevocably lost.

I'm gonna hold myself in reserve until the military exhausts it's supply of young punks and tired old freepers. Of course all this will be moot if Joque Le Kerry wins the election.

I'll even bring my own rifle. Wonder if they would let us form a Free Republic Brigade? The First Free Rifles?

59 and doing a slow burn, x-Air Force. Surely with all the money spent on people like us in training there is and has to be "something" useful we can do for those of us who are Warrior Patriots. 43250 when I left B-52 D& KC-135 A. Ready to keep em flying!

Voluteered for Nam in '68 so there's some rust on most of the body but still shoot "expert" and passed the CCP shooting course in my county. Kids are grown and gone, wife wouldn't understand why but would support whatever I decide to do. Always thought that if they started drafting again I could voluteer as an augmentee for law enforcement. And with our smart weapons nowdays it would take this old dog a while to learn the new tricks and be productive enough not to get my buddies killed.

I'd go..and volunteer for sniper duty. I'm not in the best shape of my life....but I hunt, and can shoot.

My father was a WWII Marine vet....and was a D.I. at Camp Pendleton during the Korean War. Secretly I think my dad always wanted me to join up....but he never pushed it.

I do have some reservations concerning, "rules of engagement" et al.....but yeah, I'd go.

FRegards,

Discussed this with my buddies, yeah, we'd do it, but our wives won't go along with it. 3 0-6s ready to roll in spite of our physical problems, being post op, and over 65. Unfortunately we're resigned to being bar stool warriors now.

Heck, just pull those goofy masks down over their eyes and we can take our sweet time kicking them to death!

I'm on the Inactive Fleet Reserve list (for life - another 'benefit' of Academy eduaction). No need for SWOs just now, but I've talked to a detailer on several occassions just to make sure. If and when the phone rings I'll be there if they need/want me.
