PS TomServo, just in case you don't know this, already -only harmful to myself, because I just know enogh to be dangerous to my compuer.
Did I thank you enough yet? Unbelievable you are - Ernest_at_the_Beach
If your comapany is doing a job site 'whos the best' - you get my vote.
You got most IT folks beat I've ever known, hands down. Thanks again, Ernest_at_the_Beach!!
Well, I am an old Mainframe IT type of guy, so I am working hard to understand these TOY computers called the PC's.
Ha!
Except they have grown up a lot since they were first introduced!
Now I am working on understanding Linux, I am finding it very strange.
Well, I gotta Ha! back to you. I'm just an old school type gal. No formal computer ed. Learned on the job, from guys like you!
Funny story, just to you [ya, right lol], back in 1986 or so, I applied for a job. Question: do you have computer experience? Me, answer: Yes. (The only experience I had was to type my resume on one and print it out! HA!) I had used earlier word processing equipment, like WANG and Mag-Card. Boy, am I dating myself, LOL! Got the job though, and guys like you taught me alot along the way. Thanks to your kind!!!
I worked there 14 years, and IT guys/gals just got better and better in helping out us souls who really didn't know what we were doing. I sure learned a lot though.
So...thanks to all of you guys, from all of us guys!!!
I remeber the Wang and the IBM Displaywriter.
I must be older. Maybe. The magnetic card, aka mag card, was in its day, State of the Art Technology. I learned of it back in the early 70's when I worked for the "State of Wisconsin" as a typist and it recorded keystrokes. Recorded onto a cylinder belt, and that's what was read, on the other side (reader) I guess. I'll never forget, when the queen of Administration from Madison, came and told us way back then, that this was the 'wave of the future'.
Who would'a thunk, she was right on!
Little did she know, the wave of the future and its evolution to today.
Hat's off again to you, Ernest_at_the_Beach! PS, I still have a small problem with Windows Update. I had a critical install' and you well know know, that didn't work. It was XP Service Pack 1 - express. Quit mid-stream many times trying to download it. So, I went to Microsoft site, and overnight downloaded XP Service Pack 3. Supposedly fixed all versions of XP Pro. But, then, again, their site said XP was covered, but not XP Pro. And I have XP Pro.
Downloaded ok...but went to install it, and it couldn't find the expected version of product...
I really HATE Microsoft, as of late! The only reason I switched from using Netscape (old version 4.77) is because I couldn't always see everything. I tried newer Netscape versions awhile back and had problems, so stuck w/old). Then used IE - that's when my problems started, then escalated!!
Thanks, buddy, Ernest_at_the_Beach for listening. No response necessary, if nothing jumps off the top of your head to fix.
Sorry to babble on about nothing...
Here's the error message, just NOW rec'd. AGAIN! Sound familar, don't it? I give up, almost...LOL!
Hey, CyberCowboy777
Any ideas? How to fix? Got to read whole thread.
Thanks...but,it didn't work earlier. Tried downloading for weeks. Read the whole thread.. me/you talking...
Short-term fix.
Thanks, as always.
Ok, thanks. I'll try that. Thanks, as always, and have a great weekend!
It was working correctly again then it broke again?
mandrake 9 or 10 is your friend - redhat 9 is as well. Slack is cool to.
Just now, I downloaded and installed it, and I'm posting from it right now. Man, this is fast.
I can hardly wait till this Friday, when SBC has my upgrade to 1.5-3.0 Mbps DSL scheduled. I'm on the slower DSL at the moment, and I typically get 1.0 to 1.2Mbps downloads. They've told me I can expect to double that after they finish preparing my line for this faster DSL.
Bump for later perusal.
However, I have seen several solutions to both issues, so now I'm ready to jump back in, I think. I'm also considering LFS and Gentoo (again).
Mozilla and Firefox, for all intents and purposes are Netscape. Just keep in mind that the two are closely related.
