Booby-Trapped "Wallet" Injures Three

This item is based on wire service reports of a bomb, discovered the wrong way,on a recently-landed Turkish airliner.

(Istanbul,06/30/04 - via AP,AFP)

A booby-trapped item,closely resembling a man's wallet,exploded yesterday aboard a Turkish Airlines jet,that had flown in from Izmir.

After the passengers had de-planed, a 3 man cleaning crew boarded, and began cleaning the craft.Inside one of the lavatories, the crew discovered what appeared to be a forgotten or abandoned wallet.

When one of the cleaners opened the wallet,it exploded: tearing off his fingers, and slightly injuring the other two workers.

Police,as might be expected, are investigating the incident.Turkey is under security alert, because of the ongoing NATO conference.

FIRST RESPONDERS Please Note :

A "dropped" wallet-especially one that looks "fat"-is almost impossible to ignore. The honest will wish to see it returned to its rightful owner. The "challenged" may be more interested in its contents.

It's easy to forget, when responding to the scene of a possible terror attack, you might be the target of a secondary attack.

This brave and noble freedom fighter managed to blow the fingers off of some working stiff who cleans planes for a living. Another glorious victory for the Revolution, no doubt...

Wow. AQ has a history of "small" bombs on planes. They blew up a Japanese man in his seat with a bomb that had been hidden under the seat. It might have taken down the whole plane.

Pressurized, at altitude, this bomb might have done a lot more damage, perhaps especially in the lavatory.

Or someone in the cleaning crew was about to plant the 'wallet'.

It's possible that whoever left the wallet in the lavatory was supposed to fire it off while the plane was airborne, and he has second thoughts.

I think it was more-clever than that. I think the wallet bomb was built on board, and meant not to be found until the next flight. A non-suicide bombing.

I bet he'll still be raising his stump in support of the intifada.

Hey, really? Thanks. I used to think it was the responsibility of the thread originator to have links. Guess I was wrong.

As mentioned: Associated Press, Agence France Presse.

No "Snopes", no "Snoop-Doggy-Dog".

I Posted it primarily as a warning to police and first responders, but thought everyone ought to take a look, because it was not considered "important news" by the news gatherers.

"This item is based on wire service reports of a bomb, discovered the wrong way, on a recently-landed Turkish airliner."

That's why I mentioned Snopes.
