"This isn't just an academic interest - firms also have researchers determining who's in their online communities and why." "Damn, I may have to revise my proposal..."
Uhhhh ..... head, you just might have more of a legal problem on your hands. I'm not a lawyer, but my guess is legitimate.

if I were to die, I'd like Free Republic and FReepers to engage in a proper wake for me, complete with FReepers getting so drunk, that they have no hope of correctly typing "Hispanarepublicana.This will happen,You have my word.

Long article, but not one mention of how he died. Suicide, leukemia, murder, terrorist attack, motor vehicle accident, brain aneurysm, AIDS, anthrax, allegric bee sting? 20 year olds don't usually die of "natural causes."

I am a lawyer (and soon to be phd, keep the snide comments to yourself, please). I'm curious as to why you see a legal problem with researching online communities? There are various ways to research the community without invading privacy or running afoul of human subjects requirements.
As to revising my proposal, no way, too much blood, sweat, and tears already. It was a joke.

I had actually thought about starting a thread on this topic. Considering that there are 150,000+ registered to this forum and their average age is probably well over the national average, we're going to lose a fair number every year.
When I get around to my will, I'm going to leave a sealed envelope with my freeper name and password along with a final message to the forum. I'll have the executor post it.
I'm also going to notify the election board that all my posthumous votes go to the GOP, unless they're gun grabbers:)

Excuse me, Tex, but I'm a little curious.
I've heard the term ZOT used often on this site, but am unaware of what it actually means. Does it mean to suspend the account of a troll, or something?
There are other abbreviations on this site that confuse me also (like the one that starts out ROFL...., or something like that).
Well, if you or anyone else can help me, it'd be appreciated.
To: RockAgainsttheLeft04
BTW, I was ROFLOL when the Moose bit that FR guy's sister, but he was series, and it was HUGH! So, I got in the shower. HTH.
To: RockAgainsttheLeft04
ZOT= post and/or poster removed. Possibly a reference to a movie from the early '60s of the same name starring Tom Poston (appropriately)
ROFL= rolling on the floor laughing.
Anyone know what GMTA means?

" There are various ways to research the community without invading privacy or running afoul of human subjects requirements."That's why I worded my reply the way I did ... translation; I don't know what I'm talking about but this smells fishy.

No snide remarks, but a very good friend of mine (phd) taught me the meaning of those letters ...
MD = Mainly Dumb
DD = Decidedly Dumb
PHD = Phenominally Dumb.
I'm a truck driver ... have at it .... laughter does good, like a medicine.

gov't surplus" If it's surplus, shouldn't they just GIVE it to us? I mean, it's ours to begin with, isn't it?
To: knarf
I wonder if Britney Spears now writes GMTA to those breast enlargement ads?
