GENEVA NY--A 16 year old Geneva boy has officially been charged with murder, rape and arson in connection with the deaths of Monique McKoy and Ashley Vincent.
The charges against Lamon McKoy, a cousin of Monique, were made public this afternoon at the Ontario County courthouse in Canandaigua. Police say McKoy raped both girls and set fire to his cousin's apartment to cover up her murder. Ontario County DA Michael Tantillo says McKoy has also been charged with sexually assaulting two other girls.
The Geneva Police Department, the State Police and the Ontario County District Attorney announced the indictment and arrest of Lamon J. McKoy, age 16, of Geneva, NY for the murders of Ashley Nicole Vincent, age 14 and Elizabeth McKoy age 18. The two victims were also from Geneva, NY.
Ashley Vincent had left her Patterson Avenue home the afternoon of December 29, 2003 to visit a friend. She later telephoned her mother, Beth Marchenese, to say that she would be home for dinner, but never arrived. A 13 year old boy found Ashley's body on the afternoon of March 2, 2004, covered with roofing shingles behind a dumpster around the corner from her house. The Ontario County D.A. reported that Ashley was killed on the day she went missing
Elizabeth M. McKoy was found dead by Fire Officials on January 20, 2004 when they responded to reports of a blaze in the third floor apartment at 372 Exchange St. where she was living with her aunt, Lirhonda Singletary. Elizabeth's body was discovered in her bedroom where the fire was located.
The cause of death in both murders was ruled to be strangulation.
The arrest follows a 5 1/2 month long investigation by the Geneva Police Department with the assistance of the NY State Police. The State Police, at times, had 18 investigators assigned to the case.
Lamon McKoy was arraigned at the Ontario County Jail before Judge Reed and committed to the Ontario County Jail. Because McKoy was only 15 years old at the times of both murders he can only receive 30 years to Life as a maximum sentence, 15 years for each murder. There is no death penalty available for prosecuters to persue for any offender under the age of 18 in NY State.
Thank God. We wouldn't want to ruin this poor kid's life by denying him parole. And God forbid he should be eligible for the death penalty
Our justice system sucks!
My bet; porn.
Too close to home. Way too close. My daughter used to run cross country practice down the street where Ashley was killed. My computer guru's Dad owns the store, above which lived Monica (nobody called her Elizabeth). That's where the cover-up fire was. The police chief, whom I know well, was on Syracuse and Rochester TV tonight saying what I knew he would: Stuff like that just doesn't happen around here. The alleged perp was tossed out of the local schools and was in a restrictive group home. I have no idea why he was loose. God bless the innocent girls, and their grieving parents.
We had a guy (same town) who did get the death penalty. A judge vacated the sentence. NY only looks like it has the death penalty. I don't know of anyone who's actually had a date with Ol' Sparky.
Hope the girls in that area still are being careful just in case the alleged perp isn't the perp!!
My bet: very bad childhood, or some sort of biological brain abnormality.
He very well may have looked at pornography, even sick pornography, but that would have been caused by his being a sicko in the first place, the pr0n would not have turned him bad.
Plenty of kids look at pr0n without committing rapes and murders.
Too bad that we seldom here what these murdering perverts did in their pastime. . .what kind of music they favored; books read or magazines. . .or internet pastimes. . .or even what video game was their favorite etc. I really would like to know; would like to know more of what these people find their pleasure in.
Not to blame the above in any single sense of course; but would be nice to know just how 'off the mark' or on. . .they might have been re their private lives.
And just how off. . .or on the mark; we might be, should we make assumptions.
Porn is a reasonable assumption; it is surely corrosive in it's impact on young people. . .and old as well.
Just want to add again, that do not see these choices in any 'single' sense as causation for criminal behavior. . .but for the already behavior-challenged kid; there are a lot of 'bad' choices available.
