Spider ID Help
Spadata ^ | 4 Jul 2004

I need some SPIDER identification help.

A few weeks ago, I was bitten by a Brown Recluse (very painful and long lasting effects). One of my dogs was bitten by another spider - and my wife a couple days ago was also bitten - but NOT by another Recluse luckily.

Tonight I just found THIS rather large spider sitting at my back door - now dead!

Can anyone identify this arachnid? Hot Springs Arkansas area. Thanx!

ps. that is 1 inch on the scale.

OK. I just right-clicked, "Properties," on the "X". He's talking about them Camel-Spiders.

It would be a much more nostalgic thread if you said you were holding the spider under your foot while you made the post.

My favorite Florida spider story is about when I was driving along and saw what looked like a big black dot suspended in the sky. As I closed the 100 yards or so I discovered it was a spider sitting in the middle of a web strung between the power and phone lines that crossed the street. I guess it was waiting for a bird or maybe a convertible to drive by :)

It's definitely not a black widow. Black widows have thin legs, not hairy ones like the spider in the photo. Black widows are also solidly black, kind of shiny black, on their topside.

MY GOD! Did you see those things?

Now you see why I'm hungry? You can't tell me they wouldn't be scrumptious with some garlic butter.

I haven't yet mastered flipping food in a skillet while running and screaming.

I'm not afraid of heights, rats, water, crowds, public speaking, bugs, snakes, liberals, bats, or much else.

Spiders have always scared ol' Flagg.

You think spiders are terrifying, come czech out TX scorpions.

They scurry about on your ceiling, plotting the exact place to let go and free-fall onto your head.

Or they wait in lay in your boots.

Looks like a female from the Family Agelenidae. It's a type of wolf spider that lives in the grass. Harmless...I think.

Could you take a picture of the front so that we could see the position of the eyes.

Oh, I know all about yer fine wildlife in Texas (God, I miss Texas!).

I think the farther south one goes, the bigger the bugs get.
Strap some strings on those HUGH roaches and you can tow your car with 'em.

I guess we must have grossed out the petitioner beyond repair. Steplock and family are probably in a hotel somewhere, having caulked up the windows and doors, with 17 bug bombs going off meantime at the ranch.

I can't identify many spiders, but I can tell you to be certain you have had attention for your brown recluse bite.

My brother had one that went untreated. The consequences were horrible. He struggled with an unhealed, large ulcer on his lower leg for about 7 1/2 years until he finally lost it below the knee.

Thanks for the ping, RBA.
