Reportedly upset over the recent decision of the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors to kow-tow to the ACLU and delete the tiny cross on the City's official seal, Mel Gibson is reported to be interested in helping to fight to retain the symbol, which represents the historical roots of the county.
The city was first founded as a Christian mission.
Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, the courageous supervisor who has battled to keep the cross on the seal, told the Los Angeles Daily News that Gibson had met with Rabbi Daniel Lapin, president of the National Jewish Christian Alliance Toward Tradition.
"The rabbi said he was with Mel Gibson and they were outraged at the action of the Board of Supervisors because the cross represents the historical founding of our county," Antonovich told the News.
While noting that he could not speak for the producer of the smash hit "The Passion of the Christ" Lapin told the News he is supporting a signature-gathering effort seeking to put the matter on the ballot and allow the citizens to decide if the cross should remain on the seal.
"This is what the Muslims did when they took over Spain, removed every sign of the cross," Lapin said. "I always say, Israel's safety belt is America's Bible Belt. As long as Americans respect the cross, Jews and other minorities are safe. In post-Christian Europe, anti-Semitism is rife."
During the heated controversy over the Passion, Rabbi Lapin was an outspoken defender of Gibson.
Gibson's spokesman said that the star, now in Australia, was not available for comment.

The fish is a christian symbol I don't know why they have a cow, possibly because we were an agricultural state.

I finally had to get a tinfoil restraint system to block him out.
The damn cross should remain on the damn seal. That said, it seems to me that everyone's rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, while the culture as a whole goes downhill, taking society down with it.

Hey, I'm looking at that seal and it seems to me that cows are sacred to Hindus. And how about that rainbow, isn't that the gay symbol? Isn't that non-inclusive of other sexual persuasions? And what about that old slave-ship. Doesn't that just offend everyones' sensibilities?

The Goddess Pomona – the goddess of gardens and fruit trees – is holding in her arms a sheaf of grain, an orange, a lemon, an avocado and a few grapes to represent Los Angeles County’s agriculture.
She stands on the shore of the Pacific Ocean with the San Gabriel Mountains in the background.
The engineering instruments – the triangle and the caliper – relate to the industrial construction complex of the County and Los Angeles’ vital contribution to the conquest of space.
The Spanish galleon is the San Salvador, which Cabrillo sailed into San Pedro Harbor on October 8, 1542.
The tuna represents the fishing industry of Los Angeles County, and the championship cow, Pearlette, represents the dairy industry.

There are many city names in California that the ACLU could change; including: San Francisco = Saint Francis, San Marcos = Saint Mark, San jose = Saint Joseph, Sacramento, Cathedral City, etc, etc.
ACLU should probably start with La Crosse, Wisconsin; St. Paul, Minnesota; Corpus Christi(body of Christ), Texas.
