President Bush is disliked by more Hungarian secondary school children than former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden, according to an opinion poll published on Wednesday.
Bush also topped the list of most-liked foreigners with eight percent of the vote, ahead of Pope John Paul with six percent.
The survey of 34,000 students, aged 16-18, from 655 high schools showed Adolf Hitler was the most disliked foreign personality with 25 percent of the vote, followed by Bush with 23 percent and Bin Laden with 16 percent.
Bush was even more unpopular than former Soviet dictator Josef Stalin, according to the poll.
The most unpopular Hungarian was Prime Minister Peter Medgyessy followed by Viktor Orban, the leader of the right of center Fidesz opposition.
Orban was also the most popular Hungarian followed by Arpad Goncz, the former dissident who became the country's first post-communist president.
Mind-numbed robot Hungarians alert! Who cares what they think?
This is a good thing. Reuters has been reduced to trolling Hungarian high schools to find Bush-bashing news.
Just shows us the power of the media. History will tell a different story.
But what do the Freedonians think of him?
Who freakin' cares! Sheesh.
Question: Aside from hastening the fall of Communism, what has the USA ever done to Hungarian HS students?
Their parents said the same thing about Reagan 20 years ago.
Do Hungarians even have indoor plumbing yet?
So?
Same students would probably poll as wanting to live in the US, more than Hungary, even with Bush in the big house.
"Bush also topped the list of most-liked foreigners with eight percent of the vote, ahead of Pope John Paul with six percent."
Where is this Hungary? Is it on the map somewhere? Or is it hungry? As in a bunch of starving children.
Slow news day. Yahoo has listed "Church groups provide aid to Cuba", "Lifestyle reason for Myopia in Asia", and "Defiant pub scorns Ireland's smoking ban". Some editor is running around going nuts yelling "come up with something! come up with something!" So, this is what they came up with....
I guess the "Kerry picks Edwards!" story didn't have legs.
Time for OBL to target Hungary... The Osama-Euro truce expires July 13...
Aren't they Marxists?
All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?
Brought peace.
Oh. Peace? Shut up!
Which is just another indicator of how out of touch these kids really are. President Bush is a great guy, but Hungary is a Roman Catholic former Communist nation.
ROFL
Indeed they are.
Or maybe they have reflected on Breck Girl for 24 hours and decided to brush that one under the rug as much as possible.
1956 is not a year studied in Hungarian high schools.
"President Bush is disliked by more Hungarian secondary school children than former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden...Bush also topped the list of most-liked foreigners with eight percent of the vote, ahead of Pope John Paul with six percent."
Ooooookaaaay....so Bush is disliked except when he's liked?
What, is Kerry teaching in Hungarian schools?
Well, there goes the election.
BTW, the headline is only "Bush Liked Less Than Saddam, Bin Ladin." The sub-header is my own. As far as the casual headline scanner knows, this is the opinion of Fedayeen loyalists or, possibly, San Franciscans.
I guess history is not taught in the schools there.
Consider yourself fortunate. I won't be sending my kids back to the Hungarian public schools this fall.
And we thought our HS students were uninformed!
Apparenly they haven't gotten to the chapter in their textbooks that points out that 'Bush = Hitler'. Once that happens, you can basically just add up the numbers for the #1 and #2 slot for most hated politician.
shame...that's what happens when they're spoonfed BS PROPAGANDA 24/7
That's O.K., I rank Hungary 2nd behind France! EUROWEENIES
LOL! Perhaps one of the most underrated political satires of all time!
My kids graduated Hungarian Public School in the late 90's. I brought them back to Alabama and sent them to Auburn University to destupid them. One has a BS and the other has a Masters.
The older Hungarian teens would have been born during the last years of Communism and are possibly suffering from brain-damage induced by short rations and high pollution levels.
This could also explain the continuing popularity of Pravda among elements of the Russian population.
It might be interesting to correlate Pravda readership with childhood proximity to, say, residue from nuclear and chemical weapons production.
And we're supposed to care about this because. . .?
Good point.
I think what these kids' responses prove is that George Bush is a polarizing world figure who's on everyone's minds these days. It goes to show how important our President is in world, and that the world has its eyes on him whether we know it or not. It's really kind of a testament to our prestige and power.
Why does the Right not make similar propaganda efforts?
Good grief. A totally irresponsible headline. How typically Reuters.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Rush was saying the same thing. He said it's the slowest day he can remember and he's been stumbling for topics. He said Fox was doing a piece on Sharon Stone!
I don't hear any bands playing a tune to how smart the Hungarian are and who the hell likes them.
That is because these fools don't remember the Soviets.
Oh. My. God.
It's beyond me why Freepers keep posting this kind of crap here. Is this something YOU want to get spread around on the web?
Note the misleading REUTERS title:
"Bush Liked Less Than Saddam, Bin Laden".
You had to provide the context (and a good thing you did), that the poll was a result of polling Hungarian high school kids.
This is Reuters attempt to spin the news.
I frankly pity the kids, I wonder where they get their information, that they end up with this opinion.
But note, that while Bush is the 2nd most disliked person, after Hitler, he is also the most LIKED person, ahead of Pope John Paul.
"Bush also topped the list of most-liked foreigners with eight percent of the vote, ahead of Pope John Paul (news - web sites) with six percent. "
I wonder how the questions were asked and what the teachers are telling the kids.
The Hungarian government has been supporting us in the Iraq war, they have troops in Iraq.
Bush, Hungarian Prime Minister Reaffirm Commitment to Iraq

Wednesday, June 23, 2004
President Bush and Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Medgyessy reaffirmed their commitment to a free and peaceful Iraq after their meeting at the White House June 22.
In his opening remarks at a joint press availability, Bush said he appreciated "the sacrifices of the Hungarian people when it comes to making the world more secure and peaceful," and he extended deepest condolences to the family of a Hungarian soldier who died recently in Iraq.
Regarding Iraq, Medgyessy (Hungary's PM) stated, "Hungary's commitment to the presence in Iraq is unchanged. ... Our troops will not be removed before their term, and we are more than happy to participate in processes that can promote a transfer of stabilization, democratization.
"Bush Liked Less Than Saddam, Bin Laden".
Also, all this shows is that Bush is hated the most by more people, not that he is liked by fewer. It doesn't even show that he is hated more than Osama, just that more people consider him #1 in evil compared to Osama. Many of the people who voted for Hitler as the #1 evil would probably also see Osama as evil.
Why is Hitler still on the list hasn't he been dead for 60 years?
Yoi Istanem...Hungarian schools must be even worse than the ones in America.:-(
