Kerry-Edwards most 'gay'-friendly ticket

The Edwards-Kerry presidential ticket is the most "gay-supportive" in the history of the U.S., the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute has declared.

The group's executive director, Matt Foreman – who has vowed to politically "punish," "terrify" and "torture" activists who oppose his organization's agenda – says in a statement the presumptive Democratic ticket is " the most gay-supportive national ticket in American history."

The group commented on Edwards' "strong support for key issues important to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and [transgendered]" persons, including supporting nine of 13 key issues of importance to homosexuals.

While it enthused over Edwards' opposition to a constitutional amendment protecting marriage, the lobbying group lamented that he "does not support extending equal marriage rights to same-sex couples."

Foreman urges Edwards to use his "strong Southern and populist roots to speak out against the ugly, divisive and anti-gay campaigns being waged all across the country in the guise of 'protecting' marriage."

Kerry's campaign website includes a page devoted to the GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender) community. The site declares:

"With a 100 percent rating from the Human Rights Campaign since 1995, John Kerry is a powerful voice in the ongoing fight for civil rights for gay and lesbian Americans."

One of Kerry's priorities, according to the site, is "protecting gay and lesbian families."

"John Kerry believes that same-sex couples should be granted rights, including access to pensions, health insurance, family medical leave, bereavement leave, hospital visitation, survivor benefits, and other basic legal protections that all families and children need," the site proclaims. "He has supported legislation to provide domestic partners of federal employees the benefits available to spouses of federal employees. He was one of 14 senators – and the only one up for re-election in 1996 – to oppose the Defense of Marriage Act."

Bush needs to put this in a TV commercial, in the right locations (most of the south and west) it will work wonders for Bush's ratings

It was in that same unguarded speech to a friendly audience that Foreman let slip the real agenda behind gay marriage, i.e. to demolish the institution rather than reinforce it. I fear it is all of a piece with their campaigns against the Boy Scouts, the catholic church and judeo-christian morality in general. The central motivation is inchoate anger and revenge against society not the professed wish for a nebulous "equality." Just as with that Swedish pastor tossed in the pokey for the hate crime of preaching against homosexuality the demands will not end with gay marriage, fanatics can never be satisfied. Any more than banning KFC nuggets would appease the PETA crowd.

Then, the "gay" vote ought to bring John & John twenty-five percent of the U.S. vote...

Don't they they keep telling uus that the queers make up twenty-five percent of the population? I know it's only perhaps one percent, but "perception" is everything these days.

This is how we gain support of the Black Community.

Snicker if you want but doesn't Edwards have more dough than Teresa?

Judging by the photographs, they act quite gay and are seemingly friendly...to each other.

Kerry's got that hand in a "girlfriend grasp", LOL.

There you go, then. That's Kerry's plan. First gay marriage, then Sen. Edwards.

This is probably how Kerry actually dresses when the press isn't around.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if this was how they showed up for their acceptance speech.

Lord God restrain me - when I read foolish challenges like that it makes me want to get in the "sexual confused" person's face and say, "give me your best shot fool - if you really have the guts for the consequences."

How can 1-3% of the population cause so much havock?

Funny thing about the internet -- it makes hiding after making threats, and potential retribution nearly impossible.
