Um, professor, I hate to break this to you, but there is a world of difference between a nation and a tribe.
I quit reading when he introduced nationalism in the context of the ancient world. The sentiment of the piece agrees with me, to be sure, but the presentation is shoddy and tendentious.
If the pickpocket hides in the mosque, protected by the imam and his priests, and leaves to harass those he believes his religion allows him to harass at will, I say he, the mosque, the imam, and the priests should suffer.
Let's not forget that the very first "Crusade" was perpetrated by Muslims against Europe, specifically the area that is now Spain, hundreds of years before Europeans ventured to Jerusalem to free it from Muslim control.
Somehow that also seems the choice we give to Islam. They don't have world class weapons, they lose the military war. However, they are winning the population war. Which war will be the more decisive remains to be seen in the distant future.

A complete nonsense. Milosevic tried to keep Kosovo from Muslim/Albanian takover or help Bosnian Serbs to preserve their identity and land. This is not "seeking empire", not more than Americans would be if they tried to keep English speaking parts of Florida and California in the Union.

'Moderate' Muslims?
I keep writing liberal people I know to have these so called moderate muslims "they know" contact me via email and or phone. But Im still waiting to here from them......

This war has been going on for nearly 2,000 years, its is not going to stop now. The media coverage of each individual killing / firefight is fueling the Jihad. Just fighting is what the Muslims want to do, there is no end in sight for them (until they control the earth). Strength is the only thing they understand. We must kick their butts REAL GOOD and set them back on their heels just to give ourselves a few years of peace, then we have to do it again. There is no negotiating with these thugs. President Bush has it right, and if the world does not see this and support Americe, THEY are in for a heap of trouble.

The only good "Moslem" state is one that supports and tolerates all religions equally.
