MOORE CAN'T FOOL THE WHO
New York Post - Page Six ^ | 7/13/04 | Richard Johnson with Paula Froelich and Chris Wilson

Posted on 07/12/2004 11:26:22 PM PDT by kattracks

MICHAEL Moore messed with the wrong rocker when he charged that The Who's Pete Townshend refused to allow his classic hit "Won't Get Fooled Again" to be used in "Fahrenheit 9/11." Biting back on his Web site, Townshend said the reason the song wasn't used was not because he was for the war in Iraq (which he admits he was), but because he doesn't trust Moore's accuracy in reporting and regards Moore as a bully. "When first approached, I knew nothing about the content of his film 'Fahrenheit 9/11,' " Townshend writes. "I had not really been convinced by 'Bowling for Columbine,' and had been worried about its accuracy . . . Once I had an idea what the film was about, I was 90 percent certain my song was not right for them."

He, Mr. Townshend, was born on May 19. Quite possibly the most creative and revolutionary of all days of the year. Oh, yeah, that's my birthday as well.

I just knew the fun wouldn't start until they let Mrs. Kerry out of the bag. She says the whackiest things. She calls her late husband "my husband" so by the end of a paragraph you don't know which husband she is talking about. One time when he was receiving an award, she got up to receive it with him (Anybody else would have stayed in place but obviously he's bought and paid for so if she wants to speak, who's to say no?)--then she gave a speech about how she married him because he was a virgin (which everyone acknowledged was such a joke because he was a real rounder as a single man about town).

She's as goofy as the rodent who lives in the outside bathroom and he's never without her. Instead of being a great helpmate, she's going to end up being his albatross.

Won't Get Fooled Again is my favorite song by The Who, I felt kinda sold out when it was used for one of the CSI shows, But would have tossed all my Who/Townshend albums in the trash if it was used by Lard-Boy.

Right on, Pete! I'm surprised that Moore didn't just use Pete's song anyway, the same way Moore highjacked Ray Bradbury's title against Bradbury's objections.

I watched a little of the interview with her and hubby JF'nK and the interview was painful to watch. But judging by the expression on Kerry's face, his pain was far greater than mine.

I didn't need her to appreciate Mrs. Bush as First Lady, but the difference between the two women is incredible. Mrs. Bush is pure class.

He would have ended up paying every cent of the profits, plus his New York townhouse, to Pete Townsend.

You might have something there. Her hair always seems to flopping in front of her face. She's often semi disheveled. Maybe she is tippling during daytime. With all her billions she is surrounded by flunkies who don't dare criticize her. Just look how she got John his very own flunky butler

That's the butler's back ....making himself useful.

I used to think that, but there are only two times Democrats surprise me. One is when I think, "they can't sink any lower", and the other is when I think, "surely the American people aren't stupid enough to believe that." There are some watershed events that completely change your perception in life. When Al Gore got a huge bump in the polls out of swallowing Tipper's tongue during the last DNC convention, I started seriously worrying about the US. BTW, I teach college, and less than 2% of my students can tell you what the fourth amendment to the Constitution says. About 60% can tell you both numbers Michael Jordan wore (at least they could three years ago. Jordan's old news now).

Regarding the Theresa snip..it really surprises me she hasnt polished her look. I find her appearance "messy". Her hair is always in her face and looks dry and slightly frizzy and in need of a trim. Her clothes, while I'm sure expensive, look rumpled. Her eyebrows are too harsh and need to be defined and her eyes should be played up as they are very expressive but not noticed because of all of the hair and eyebrows going on. Theresa needs a SERIOUS makeover.

Charged but not convicted. From what I remember he was arrested because he had visited child pornography sites on the web. His defense was that he was "researching" pornography for some reason or another.

Yea, researching, that's the ticket!

I think Townsend also said he was molested as a kid, which often leads to problems later in life.

Too bad he didn't give Moore permission, then the headline could have read:

The Who Sells Out

and everything would have come full circle.

If I remember correctly, he was completely exonerated. I think he was working on some sort of an anti-abuse project because he had been abused as a youngster.</p>

Not for the war but intelligent enough to look into this Moore guy and see him for what he was and make an indepedent decision regarding allowing the song's use. Good for Pete, even if I'm not a Who fan.

I heard Richard Gere is a great fan of hers (rimshot).

BTW, Won't Get Fooled Again was on Who's Next, originally slated as a concept album ala Tommy and Quadraphenia. The album's theme was to be set in a post apocalyptic future, but the idea was scrapped.

I always considered Won't Get Fooled Again as an anti-60's revolution anthem. It was very cheeky with jabs against the counter-culture like "the party (or parting?) on the Left is now the party (or parting?) on the Right" and I always thought of this song as the Clintons descended past Nixonian politics into pure fascism.

I've read and witnessed Pete Townsend's life and it's like Rick James puts it, "What would YOU do if you had money, fame, women, and drugs?" It's amazing he survived, especially the 70's and 80's. But he has never been a Jane Fonda. Townsend's politics take a backseat but seem to be libertarian to conservative. Also seems Townsend is trying to reform from his past childhood abuses which led him, IMO, to his sexual confusion.
