Well, maybe he knows where Osama is... but since he's in the Saudi's hands we won't be able to put panties on his head to force him to tell us.

But, I'm guessing Iran. Just a hunch.

Man with Bin Laden on tape described as veteran fighter
New York Times

Published December 16, 2001

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA -- The Saudi who was seen visiting Osama bin Laden in the videotape released last week is a 38-year-old veteran of conflicts in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Chechnya who left the kingdom most recently on Sept. 21, a senior Saudi official said Saturday.

The official's account was the most authoritative yet in solving the mystery surrounding the dinner guest, who was seen and heard on the tape paying effusive tribute to Bin Laden and flattering him with news of Saudi clerics who, he said, had endorsed the Sept. 11 attacks in their sermons, fatwas and other messages.

The official identified the dinner guest as Khaled al-Harbi, a former fighter in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Chechnya who was not regarded as a religious scholar. He said earlier accounts by Saudi and U.S. officials naming him as Ali Sayeed al-Ghamdy, a religious scholar, were incorrect.

Unlike Al-Ghamdy, who had been banned from preaching by the government in 1994, Al-Harbi has never been arrested by the Saudi government or included on any security watch list, the Saudi official said.

The official said Saudi Arabia did not know Al-Harbi's whereabouts between his departure from the kingdom 10 days after the Sept. 11 attacks and his appearance on the videotape, which was released in Washington on Thursday.

If Al-Harbi does turn up now, the Saudi official said, he will be detained and questioned because of his association with Bin Laden, who was stripped of his Saudi citizenship in 1994 for calling for the toppling of Saudi rulers, whom he has labeled as apostates.

The senior Saudi official said Al-Harbi was among the estimated 15,000 or more volunteers from the kingdom who took part in the war against the Soviets in Afghanistan during the 1980s, in what Saudi scholars advocated as a holy war against infidel occupiers.

Al-Harbi was believed to have operated from the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, the Saudi official said, and in that role he could have become acquainted with Bin Laden, the son of a wealthy Saudi family who provided financial and logistical support to the warriors who battled the Soviets.

The Saudi official said little is known about Al-Harbi's role in Bosnia and Chechnya, except that it took place during the early to mid-1990s and that he lost his legs in one of the conflicts.

What is that strange buzzing sound?

It's the chorus of the political left bleating like sheep about how the Saudi princes and Bush babies are in league together, conspiring against the American people by attempting to influence our election etc., etc.

(CNN) -- A close associate of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was flown from Iran to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday after surrendering to security officials at the Saudi Embassy in Tehran, a Saudi Interior Ministry official said.

Khaled al-Harbi was believed to have been living near the Afghan-Iranian border.

Video aired by the Arabic television network Al-Arabiya Tuesday showed al-Harbi being carried from a plane and placed in a wheelchair.

Al-Harbi is believed to have fought with bin Laden against Russian forces in Afghanistan about 20 years ago. Saudi officials believe al-Harbi returned to Afghanistan in the mid-1990s, joining up with al Qaeda.

In late 2001, he was identified on a videotape conversing with bin Laden about the September 11 terrorist attacks.

News of the surrender comes after a Saudi amnesty offer in late June for al Qaeda fighters to surrender within a month.

CNN's Caroline Faraj in Dubai contributed to this report.

I wonder if this guy turned himself in knowing he would be safe in Iran when the Al Qaeda plot is launched in the U.S. soon? Meaning he knows he will at least be kept alive by living in Iran.

I don't have a good feeling about the guy all of a sudden "turning himself in",Al Qaeda does not have a conscience.

This might be big! If he truly is in custody, and surrendered of his own volition, there had to be a deal beforehand...

Might he know exactly where Osama is??

No doubt Karl Rove is in an "undisclosed location" supervising removing Osama from the dialasis machine and getting him ready to fly to Afghanistan for the "live" perp-walk...
