Thanks for the ping. This is a wonderful thread and a real eye opener.

Great story bump. And no, all lawyers are John Edwards types. To turn the old joke around, it's the 1% like Edwards who make the 99% look bad. In fact, "some of my best friends" are lawyers. :~))

Ooooops. "all lawyers are John Edwards types" SHOULD BE "
not all lawyers are John Edwards types"
Shows why I didn't go into law. I'd have been caught with my briefs down. ;~))

My father did finish high school, my mother had scarlet fever so did not finish with her class. She DID get her high school diploma at the age of 52, and then took a few college art courses. My father worked as a sawyer in a sawmill (after a few years of working in a gas station and at U-Haul cleaning out trucks). He ended up making a fair salary, not rich by any means, but was able to put away for retirement, pay off the house, etc.
There were eight kids in my family, I was the youngest. With the exception of beauty school (grandmother, sister), I am the only one with a college degree. I worked and put myself through school, not a dime from my parents.

America is a place where anyone can dream big and realize those dreams when we work hard and apply ourselves Exactly .. After my dad died many people didn't think we'd make it
We sure did surprise them ..
Mom always said .. you can do and be anything you want as long as you worked hard for it.

Your mother was right. :) (aren't they always ?)
Edwards two Americas stuff is just a new twist on the same old "class envy" wedge they use to stir up their nitwit base.

Upon further reflection, I think stories such as these have worn thin with the American voter. Joe Leiberman told us all about his father who drove a bakery truck; however it later came out that he drove a bakery truck for a matter of months and ended up being one of the largest liquor distributors on the East Coast.
Edwards saying that his dad worked in a saw mill is like George W. saying his father was a humble civil servant. True, but not accurate.
