Mfume gets it. The NAACP is passe! Why do you think he scurried around all week begging GW Bush to come and speak before the NAACP. He did it for two reasons. One there is a significant minority in the NAACP that thinks that GW Bush is okay! Second, the nuts like Julian Bond are destroying the NAACP image. The NAACP came out the bad guy on this one. It's bad enough that Blacks are no longer the largest minority in the USA, and now they are giving away what little political power they have left. The Hispanics and Asians are zooming by them while Mr. Bond rants and the majority of Blacks stayed chained to the bottom of the economic totem pole forged by Mr. Bond, his ilk and the Democrat Party. I wonder when Black folk are ever going to wake up and realize that they are Americans, have all their rights and start acting like Americans. I suspect many Blacks get it, and I believe that Mr. Bush could easily garner 15-20% of the African-American vote. We shall see. Chalk up a victory for GW Bush and a bad loss for Blacks and the NAACP!

Spin-in-making-Alert!! Just because Mfume is saying the "legitimate" word, in association with President Bush's declining to attend an NAACP event, has nothing to do with "affirming" President Bush's reasons for declining. I've seen these word plays before. lol. Given Mfume past, Mfume might just be using the "legitimate" phrase as in, what THE NAACP and Mfume, Bond, et al have said about President Bush is "legitimized" in (by) his refusal to attend their bogus event (attempt at discourse). In sum, Mfume isn't really saying much, at all; just trying to stay in the media lights.

Spin-in-making-Alert!!

Mfume was on O'Reilly TV the other night, maybe Monday. He wants to speak at the Republican Convention, probably playing good cop to Bond's bad cop.

If you hear Mfume can't get credentials, it is the speaking credential, not the attendee/press ones. Mfume was clear on that and O'Reilly misunderstood.

Mfume was "speaker credentials" to speak at the GOP Convention?
Fascinating!! This cannot happen, IMHO. Mfume wants speaking credentials just because he WANTS IT? Hmmm... Not a good move. Can't blame him for trying; but Bush Admin has been trying for almost 4 years to build a bridge of discourse with NAACP -- and they've spurned the admin, wrecklessly. Ergo, Mfume cannot be trusted with such a position. These positions, while they are "diverse" at least coincide with the most basic rules of etiquette and civility -- two rules of which Mfume has learned not much about; nor shown any evidence of having even tried to learn. Mfume has created a stereotype of himself, and thereby of the NAACP, which the GOP, conservatives can do nothing to alter or assist with. IMHO. "Let the time, fit the crime". And in this case, Mfume gets No time -- as befitting his crime".

When the leadership of the NAACP and the leadership of every other organization with like lost causes decrees themselves an organization no more.

I'm not holding my breath.

This is the article the quote comes from, a transcript of Mfume on the O'Reilly factor. Basically Mfume chides Bush for refusing to even meet privately with the NAACP over the past 4 years, something other GOP Presidents have done.

I think Bush was flat-out wrong here. He should have gone to the NAACP, presented his views, and tried beyond hope to make any inroads to black voters. Going to the NAACP and presenting his views probably won't win too many votes, but not going is sure to win zero.

To the contrary, I think O'Reilly cornered him in the interview and he had to give. His rhetoric would not wash with O'Reilly. It truely was a "No Spin Zone" that night.

Here is question that nailed him and his answer

O'Reilly:But put yourself in President Bush's position. He hears this kind of vitriolic rhetoric from Bond, and he says, "You know, I might want to go in and talk to MFUME. He's a reasonable guy. But I don't want to go in there and be embarrassed, because if I am, if I'm booed, or heckled, or something untoward happens, my opponent's going to use this."

"He's going to grab the tape, he's going to play it on all the newscasts, the blacks hate Bush, NAACP hates Bush. And I wouldn't take the chance if I'm the chief executive of this country, based upon Mr. Bonds irresponsible remarks." Now, if Mr. Bond apologized -- because I trust you, I don't think you would put the president in a bad position -- then I might rethink it.

But at this point, after that diatribe, no way I'd go.

MFUME:Yes, and you know, it's legitimate, and it's legitimate even from his part. I mean, that's the sum of the conversation that Mr.Gillespie and I had when we talked, and he pretty much put it the way you did.

Sounds like he called Bush's reasons for not attending "legitimate" to me.

Thank you VERY much for posting this exchange for me to read. I appreciate it. Perhaps I'm swatting a gnats; but the legitimate could also means.. "Yep.. that's what the NAACP would exactly do with the tape".

Legitimate, this way sounds much more realistic. As opposed to "legitimizing" that Julian Bond is a racist fool hack of a politician, and a rotten NAACP leader. "Legitimate" in the former can also mean, they, the NAACP, is going to carp up the heat, saying Mr. Bush can't do or won't work with people whose opinions vary from his own. A bypass, strategy-wise; Another reason to bash Bush. A stupid reason. ugh.

Addendum. There's one other thing I realllllllly dislike just less than real-time terrorists; I have NO liking for emotional terrorists. The NAACP are emotional terrorists. Alice Huffman, Mel Watts, Maxine Waters -- all traffic in emotional terrorism. It's a "soft abuse" category - words and emotions which seek to harm and manipulate. Of course they call this "free speech"; I call it emotional abuse and blackmail.

Cyborg how did I earn such a platitude?

The commies over at the NAACP are off their medication again. I would love to go over and be on the dais with the President, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Condi Rice and Colin Powell. Someone should ask the question how much are Julian Bond and Frizzel Gray getting paid to hold their positions? I am willing to bet it is in the 6 figure range. How can they make so much money when the poor blacks they support are barely getting by on Uncle Sam's plantation?

Look at what I found... And this is six years ago.

"Tax returns for 1998 reveal that Mr. Mfume received a salary of $238,364, and the top five officers received a total of $410,639 in salary. Overall, the NAACP in 1998 spent $6.3 million for wages and benefits with direct public income of $21.9 million."

One of the points that I made on Michael Reagan's show day before yesterday (as well as the couple of other local radio appearnces I've made this week) is that historically, the NAACP provided support and leadership in communities across the nation.

They provided help for youngsters, for families, for small businesses, for communities as whole.

In the past twenty to thirty years, they've changed focus. They've gotten away from that mandate.

They need to get back to that. They need to get out of national politics, get back to the grass roots and take care of the people at home who need help; who can benefit from their presence.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

"I wonder when Black folk are ever going to wake up and realize that they are Americans, have all their rights and start acting like Americans."

Or conversely, that in this imperfect world no one has all their rights. We simply live in a fallen world.

My church has become a microcosm of how people can flourish in an integrated society, without the blame game (from both sides). Quite simply, both sides put Jesus first.

We've attracted several interracial couples with children, and interracial adoptive families. We joke about our racial differences, but more like Italians and Irish folks tease each other. Christianity trumps race as an identity issue in our church. Among our young, barriers against intermarriage have slowly dissolved. It's a much bigger issue to marry outside the faith.

Stephanie Tubbs Jones(D-Ohio) was just on Fox News complaining about this. Says Bush is the president of the United States and should have thicker skin than that. Clinton, the "first black president", didn't have very thick skin. Remember how his anger at the "vast right wing conspiracy" would turn him beet red in the face?

Also, I think GWB is going to speak to the Urban League in Detroit, if I heard right.

Julian Bond is off the charts for outrageous comments.

There is no way Bush could have done that engagement with the NAACP. They would have booed him off the stage. Politically, not showing up was less of a hit than attending.

The NAACP is not civil as evidenced by their comments. Their behavior would have been uncivilized. It appears to be their nature.

Going to the NAACP and presenting his views probably won't win too many votes, but not going is sure to win zero.

Going would get him zero votes + film clips of booing and hissing, which might cost him more.
And, who knows, it might get him a reprise of the Byrd ad, which is what he got from them 4 years ago.

The NAACP is a far Left, racist organization that depends on race and class wars to exist. They have a right to exist in this country of ours, but they sure aren't a symbol of the best of us.
