Just say no to driver's licenses for illegal aliens
North County Times ^ | June 14, 2004 | Mark Wyland

Posted on 07/14/2004 4:11:38 PM PDT by Tailgunner Joe

Last year, liberals who dominate the state Legislature passed a bill giving driver's licenses to illegal aliens. This bill was signed into law by then Gov. Gray Davis, who was facing a recall election. The public was outraged. Republican candidates for governor promised to roll back the illegal driver's license bill if one of them were to be elected governor.

In the wake of the recall election, the new governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, made it clear that he intended to live up to his campaign pledge.

Shell-shocked by the recall election results, and a gathering referendum drive to repeal the law, legislative liberals feared additional public outrage over the illegal driver's license issue. They agreed to cooperate with Republican members and roll back the law. However, they pledged to bring the issue up again in the future.

Now the liberals and illegal alien advocates are at it again. The latest illegal alien driver's license bill has been described as a requirement before liberals will vote for a budget, and touted as a "sensible and pragmatic" solution to the problem of illegal immigrants driving without licenses.

Nothing could be further from the truth. It is neither "sensible" nor "pragmatic" to issue driver's licenses to individuals who have broken our nation's laws by illegally entering California. One of the so-called "sensible" measures in this legislation is a requirement that an illegal alien applying for a California driver's license admit to being here illegally. One would think that this admission of illegal status would be enough to deport the illegal alien, but instead it rewards him with California's official identification.

One suggested provision prohibits the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Justice from sharing information on these illegal aliens with other law enforcement agencies. We are at war with an enemy who has used our lax identification procedures to murder innocent Americans, but this bill would instead bend over backward to make sure the privacy (and background) of illegal aliens being issued our main identification document is protected.

There is another, more rational way to solve the problem of illegal aliens on our roads and freeways. If a driver is determined by law enforcement to be an illegal alien, the Immigration and Naturalization Service should be immediately contacted and the individual deported. The long-term solution to this problem is to exercise real control over our borders to stop the flow of illegal immigrants. In the meantime, we should not give in to the pressure of granting licenses to those here illegally.

What is it with California anyway????

Posted too fast.

Seven of the 19 9/11 hijackers had licenses issued by Virginia which did not require proof of identity in order to obtain an official state document.

Now the Republican party wants to extend this to California and is doing all it can to squash any republican who opposes this policy.

Care to guess whose policy this is? (Hint: He wants to grant amnesty to the illegals already here)

"Just say no to driver's licenses for illegal aliens"

Now is that just say no to the semi real drivers license that will probrably be gotten under a false name. Or is that just say no to the first second or third license under name number one. Or is that just say no to the other drivers licenses that are under name two thre and four?

Just make sure to keep "cucaracha" in the tagline. It adds an air of distinction.

Didn't know that! My liberal brother lives there, but he hasn't mentioned it. I guess he thinks diversity is great. (I love him, but we don't agree on much...)

I agree with you, that he was deceptive. But it was extremely clear where Arnie stood on this and other issues. Anyone who chose not to see the truth was simply kidding themselves. It was very clear all along that he didn't oppose this- At least it was to me and other McClintock supporters. The fact that people don't read, or that they believed the propaganda, is their own foolish fault. Don't you see what I mean?

I personally asked Beevis Kobylt of KFI why he thinks Arnie opposed the referendum of SB60. (while saveourlicense was still gathering signatures for it). He acted like he didn't understand the question, matter of fact he replied "SB60?" I have this on video. "yes, SB60. The bill that will give licenses to illegals. why do you think Arnie doesn't suport the referendum? Meanwhile heckyl and jeckyl started bashing mcclintock and pushing their muscled hero as 'the only chance', lol.

There are two words for this: Unspeakable idiocy.

Why would any conservative oppose that referendum?? The ONLY reason he opposed it is because a referendum would have stopped all political momentum for 'illegal licenses'. Arnie opposed the referendum because he planned on bringing this back in another form and passing it. Carry, we knew it all along; it was so utterly obvious. All we got in reply was 'that's not true! He doesn't support it! and Tom can't win! We can't let Cruz win!'

Why couldn't they have tried to perhaps, read some of the library of Arnie's own words on this issue? TRUST ME it was so painfully obviously to anyone who was not either woefully, purposefully uninformed or in denial.

My point is that voters who are lazy and purposely refuse to educate themselves, deserve the blame on this.

Matter of fact, you can look up the archives of my posts to see i outlined all of this prior to the election. That's actually how I found this website; i was doing some research on "Arnie" and found a post on a website called 'FreeRepublic' with a bunch of people bickering over 'Arnold vs McClintock'. I had never even heard of this site before, but i found it interesting and so I signed up and joined in the fray.

You simply cannot claim that people were not told. they WERE told, endlessly; and purposely chose to ignore the truth.

An aside, I must say that I personally don't have any respect for people who whould vote for a person with Schwarzeneggers beliefs. I think he represents a worldview that is amoral and disgusting.: abortion, stem cell research cloning, homo-unions, socialism, open-border etc etc etc. As a Catholic i would never vote for anyone like this, and i outlined this message, along with record & his true statements, loud and clear, for months before the election.. both to individuals and in the media. It was actually very easy to get media coverage on this and despite the outcome, I did my part to get coverage and was successful in my attempts. Washington Post, LATimes, OCRegister, KNBC4, KFI, KLOS, KABC, KBRT

But it was extremely clear where Arnie stood on this and other issues.

You give the average distracted voter too much credit.

Anyone who chose not to see the truth was simply kidding themselves.

They didn't need help though.

It was very clear all along that he didn't oppose this- At least it was to me and other McClintock supporters.

Of course it was, but it didn't make it easy dealing with the Arndroids because he had offered them deniability. They kept shrieking about how Arnold was against licenses for criminal aliens citing his stand on SB60. Some even cited his negotiations with Cedillo as a cynical ruse, playing Cedillo as a chump. That ambiguity was very valuable to Arnold going in to the recall election.

There are two words for this: Unspeakable idiocy.

How about self-delusion, wishful thinking, or blind loyalty?

All we got in reply was 'that's not true! He doesn't support it! and Tom can't win! We can't let Cruz win!'

Don't I know it.

Here is the last poll before the recall by USA Today/CNN/GALLUP.

"If the choice were between Cruz Bustamante, the Democrat and Tom McClintock, the Republican, who would you be more likely to vote for: Cruz Bustamante or Tom McClintock?"

September 25-27
Registered Voters

McClintock 49%
Bustamante 42%

Probable Voters

McClintock 56%
Bustamante 37%

TRUST ME it was so painfully obviously to anyone who was not either woefully, purposefully uninformed or in denial.

All twelve percent of us. There are enough Republicans, desperate enough to win at any cost and totally lacking any faith in their own principles, to lead the charge down the primrose path Arnold led them cutting down anyone in their way at the knees. Think FairOpinion or Southack.

My point is that voters who are lazy and purposely refuse to educate themselves, deserve the blame on this.

We disagree. Some of them are blatantly dishonest spin artists beholden to the corporate RINOs who don't give a crap what happens as a consequence. Unless we hold public and Party offals to a higher standard of honesty we won't get what we demand. Arnold needs to be roasted for this and the GOP leadership with him.

You simply cannot claim that people were not told. they WERE told, endlessly; and purposely chose to ignore the truth.

I did a lot of the telling if you will recall, but what fraction of the voting public reads FR? No, the GOP staff of the various office-holders who eventually caved to Arnold DID come here and easily saw that conservatives could either be duped into supporting Arnold or simply shouted down. There are a lot of posters here who are far more accountable for this mess than they realize. Some of them are paid staff.

>>Arnold knew damned well that when he said he would repeal SB60 the general public believed that he was against drivers' licenses for illegals.

And... in all the short interviews (most of them), he simply said he was against the existing law. He was rarely pressed for details... and when forced to elaborate he was vague, generally citing "security" issues. Those interviews got the biggest audiences (e.g. Hannity). Here's a snip from a newsmax summary of his Hannity interview:

Affirmative action was the one issue where Schwarzenegger was vague, telling the conservative host that "we have not gotten into" it. "I'm fleshing it out right now and having meetings about that," he explained.

On drivers licenses for illegal aliens, Schwarzenegger said, "I vote no on that."

On general services for illegal aliens, he explained, "That's a complicated issue because what we have to do is find a way of including them . . . This is an issue that is with the federal government because the governor has nothing really - much power with those things."

But in the next breath Schwarzenegger suggested that solving the illegal immigration problem would be a priority for him as governor.

"One thing we know is we have to deal with [illegal immigration]," he told Hannity, explaining that one of his goals as governor would be "to really work those things out and come up with a solution once and for all."

The fact that this is even treated like a legitimate issue by our elected officials tells me that America is going insane.

They are insane, and we'll contribute to it as little as possible. And everytime they trip, we'll be there to make sure they fall.
