What DO Modern Democrats Believe??

Fellow Freepers, we need your help!

My husband, Cypherdog, and I are in a quandary which we are sure affects other Freepers as well. My husband's father and his uncle are lifelong democrats, but lately, they seem to be getting, well, just plain crazy. Uncle is going as far as to work for Kerry's campaign in Colorado and my FIL has several of Krugman articles about Joe Wilson posted on his web site. We have both sent them articles about how Joe Wilson lied, but their response has been "Please, no more of this oddly reasoned stuff. " Oddly reasoned?? How is the fact that Wilson lied oddly reasoned??

Anyway, these really are decent , honest, hard working men who love their families and whom we love very much. But DH and I can't figure out how to persuade them that they are, well, just wrong about a lot of their beliefs. And these men live in Colorado and Nebraska. Isn't this suppose to be the Heartlands and Bush country?

My theory is that they came of age during the 60's and still believe all that JFK "Ask not what your country can do for you.." stuff. I can understand old time, liberals/democrats as the party of the common man. But the democrat party of today seems far, far removed from what is was then. The problem is, what does the modern day democratic party believe? We can't figure it out. It seems that all they believe is that anyone but GWB would be a better president, but beyond that - Is there anything there??

You cannot rationalize with an irrational person. Post #2 is right on the money. I have a sister who is the classic rabid, left-coast, Clinton slurping, MoveOn.org boosting, Moore idolizing, Bush-hating, Freeper bashing, socialist mongrel.

There is nothing that can be said to these people. With one exception; I remind them that they are now the minority party, at all levels of govt, coast to coast, and "you are the best example of why that is" and it shuts them up every time, LOL.

Time nor space permits properly explaining WHO the democrat party beliefs are.

Those that vote (D) have an extra chromosome that denies common-sense, facts, and intellectual honesty where 'outcome' trumps 'life' and 'ethics and morals'.

They can't help it. It's who they are. They can't even explain it. You've tried discussing the topics but, intellectual dishonesty overpowers there reasoning and out spews the usual liberal playbook lines. You know what I mean. Good luck. My charity contribution:

Maybe most humans have an ingrained need to hate someone.

Now that we've established that hate based on race, creed, or sexual orientation is unacceptable, the only thing left is hatred based on ideology. Michael Moore would have been a Klansman 100 years ago when he could get some positive attention for that. But since he can't do that now, he's chosen to focus on hating conservatives. Many people applaud him for that.

Both my husband and I have had to terminate our relationships w/our entire family for these same reasons.

Modern Democrats believe that they can intuit what is right and good. They cannot define it, but they know it in their gut. They are guilty if they make a lot of money and want to pay off those of us less fortunate so we won't be envious. They are uneasy with capitalism. They profess belief in God, but hate anyone who has conservative religious beliefs and are uneasy with people of faith who speak of it at all. If they don't make a lot of money, they think others should share theirs so we are all equal. For those who refuse to share voluntarily, they are for confiscation.

The preeminent belief is in a woman's right to choose. They have given up convincing children to abstain from premarital sex and ache for the poor 15-year-old who is pregnant, convinced that if she tells her parents, her father will kill her.

They believe we deserved 9/11. They believe we should never use our military anywhere to defend our interests. They believe Muslims are superior to Christians. If they are Jewish, Israel causes them mortal anguish and embarrassment because they defend themselves militarily.

They do not like anyone who thinks differently from them or who chooses a different lifestyle unless it is aberrant. The deny that there is absolute truth. They abhor all judgments.

They negatively judge anyone on the right or who disagrees with them and that is the only moral form of judgment.

It won't help persuade anyone but the modern Democrat believes that Democrat party leaders and the Democrat party are more important than Our Country as a whole. It use to be said about Republicans that they believed what ever was good for General Motors was good for America. Democrats believe that what ever is good for the Democrat party is good for America. Even actions that harm the country are acceptable if they benefit the Democrat party because after all what is good for the Democrat party is good for America.

I'd add that since the other 50% of the country stands in the way of their obtaining power they feel entitled to, the typical democrat sees the other 50% far more of a threat & more deserving of their contempt than any foreign enemy.

Liberals have allowed their contempt to define themselves - they are the anti-conservative. They have no more substance than a mirror reflection.
