Presidential candidate John Kerry clenched his fist and thrust it into the air at yesterday's NAACP convention in Philadelphia - in what appeared to be a "Black Power" salute reminiscent of some of the race-based separatist movements of the 1960s.
The Kerry campaign refused to confirm that their candidate "intended" to offer the controversial gesture, the New York Post said. But photographs of the moment left little room for any other interpretation. Kerry's "Black Power" salute was delivered from the podium while standing side-by-side with NAACP president Kweisi Mfume.The top Democrat engaged in the divisive symbolism despite telling the group that he intended to be "a uniter" if elected.
Some saw the move as an attempt by Kerry to overcome his stiff "white" image. In April he told MTV that he was a big fan of rap music. In the 1990s his wife Teresa, who came to the U.S. from Mozambique in 1964, repeatedly referred to herself as "African American."
At the time her spokesman defended the claim saying that even her black friends referred to her using that term. But it's not clear whether Sen. Kerry actually has any black friends.
Sen. Kerry has also been hit with complaints from black and Hispanic leaders who criticized him for having a campaign staff that was virtually all white until earlier this year.
Yeah, Soul Brother Kerry. Right on. At some point doesn't this shameless pandering make even Julian Bond want to throw up?
Black power will come with education and leaving the Democrat plantation. Kerry ain't the answer!

I do recall a time when Bond appeared to be a sensible human being. Guess that wasn't profitable enough. As for the 1968 Dem Convention -- eeh-gad, what a mess -- now those lunatics in the streets are running the Democratic Party. It would be nice to see another Abe Ribicoff moment at this year's Dem Convention.

This is a duplicate of the infamous salute given by two of the Olympic medal winners in the 70s, someone should combine both pictures.

In the 60's the Black Panthers was a radical and criminal Marxist organization that was at the forefront of the Leftist movement in this country.
The "Black Power Salute" was symbolic for sympathy with that organization and it's goals which were the violent overthrow of the U.S. Government and it's replacement with a Marxist-Socialist-Communist government. John Kerry was a 60's radical. John Kerry is the real Manchurian Candidate.
Read David Horowitz's "Radical Son" if you really want to understand the Black Panthers and what they stood for.
But Kerry wouldn't know anything about that.

I think that Kerry still thinks that he is in the 1960's. Someone needs to wallop him upside the head and tell him that 40 years have gone by since he has been in his coma.

Kerry raises his FIST. Yeaaaargh! A real sign of the "compassionate liberal" who holds onto his MILLIONS. He denigrates "private charity" as ineffective and so actually donates less to charity than people whose politics are more conservative! He expects Big Government (aka Big Brother/Nanny State - via milking and bleeding the average middle-class struggling-to-make-ends-meet taxpayers) to foot the enormous utopian bills of the DHIMMICRATIC vision for America's future.
Kerry's raised fist - the combo Nazi salute-"progressive power" sign. A real sign of ramming that fist down the throats of over-burdened taxpayers who are going to have to fund KERRY'S tax plans. A real sign, too, of Massachusetts-style "fisting." (refer to the popular Caption-A-Rama posted weekly on Free Republic.)

But think about that, because he is all dressed up now and has his $150 hair cut to boot and still believes it. Married for money twice and everything and still believes it. This man wants to be king and will not be nay-sayed, just like all the counter-culture men I have met in later years: power hungry beyond belief.

I was listening to O'Reilly's radio show yesterday and both he and the female co-host he has (I can't remember her name) said that watching Kerry's address to the NAACP was PAINFUL to watch. They didn't extrapolate much during the snippet that I heard but it must have been bad because as O'Reilly even said, he likes Kerry but this was hard to watch. I'd just add that I think it's painful to watch Kerry ANYTIME!
The guy doesn't have the gravitas to even be at the NAALCP. I almost feel sorry for him. Almost, but not quite.
I heard that, too, and didn't get it until I saw it there in print. She is from Africa, so she's African. Yeah, and exactly what's her ancestry, or can't we ask about that without getting our tongues cut out? Everyone is so @%$? silent on anything about her money, her interests, her tax status, her income. It makes me sick. No other candidate would have gotten away with that in odern times. She has spent a lot of money to make that happen.

Somewhere there is a dictionary with Kerry's photo next to the word "PHONY". Almost every photo you see of this POS looks so fake that it is repulsive.
I can not take this. That pic of Kerry giving the black power salute is just sickening considering what it represented in the 60's and in the early 70's.

Yes, Kerry, the Kennedys, the Clintons, and all the other left-wing whiteys are practising "white separatism" everyday with their gated compounds, private Swiss boarding schools, oppressive tax codes that keep the brother men down, etc. If Kerry wins we can expect to see H. Rapp Kerry and Huey Clinton running around with M-16s at their press conferences, telling how they're fighting the power! Word up!
Blacks will not be motivated to go to the polls for Kerry. He is going to lose, big time.
He's a geek and a dork. Its like the football pictures when he looks so awkward throwing or catching the ball (although I'm sure he and Edwards are pretty good at 'pitching and catching' when the cameras aren't around). This picture reminds me of Tony Shaloub's character in "Monk" trying to be cool and hip but still coming across as awkward and a nutjob.
