I need some answers, how has Bush helped African Americans?

I want to put together a video for streaming. I want to show the contrast between Bush and the left, hoping to get African Americans to consider conservatism.

I would also appreciate any other input on how the video should go. I have not made up my mind fully what I want. I will make it available for any one who wants to run it on TV.

Oh yeah, 15 billion dollars of AIDS support for Africa (I've heard that blacks live there), FYI, the first black president (Clinton) did nothing in eight years.

Have any blacks ever held such high leadership positions as is seen in his administration?

I read recently that the FHA (at Bush's behest) was implementing a new program for first time homebuyers with essentially "no money down". Of course, we can debate the merits of such a program (I'm not very enthusiastic about it). However, if we are to take the word of the race-baiters, that the black community is impoverished, this would certainly open the doors to more homeownership, which is the lynchpin in building wealth.

In a nutshell, I believe the president is trying to enact policies that enable people to get ahead on their own. Granted, an FHA sponsored loan program is not a market force, but it is not merely a handout, as the Democrats would prefer.

Killed Clinton's "ergonomic" rules that OSHA was about to implement; rules that would have shut down every home business in America

That's right - I had forgotten about that!

this is correct! for some of the pandering level things see White House daily presser yesterday - Scott listed off a bunch of things like eliminating racial profiling at the federal level, faith based programs helping racial minority neighborhoods, school choice in DC, no child left behind act strengthening schools, etc..

errrrr.... he pointedly notes there has yet to be "the first black president", although me thinks he may be grooming a few potential candidates.

He treats them as equals, not needy lesser-thans. He looks around and sees a black individual who is highly trained in an area and he says, "Lead us." What greater compliment can you give anyone than the respect you give a leader? Rod Paige is not being helped by being the Ed. Sec. He is helping all of us. He HAPPENS to be black. Same for Colin and Condie. LEAD US! WE VALUE YOU! YOU ARE OUR EQUAL. LEAD US.

Nothing says equal like that. The Democrats can blather on forever about how much they want to help blacks be more than they are. It still says, "You are not as good as I am. You have nothing to offer me. I have things to offer you. I am still your master."

Don't forget that the Secretary of Education is a Black gentleman, also. I think that he has had some very strong ideas on improving educational opportunities in the minority communities.

He doesn't assume black people are illiterate, which puts him a step above Jesse "black people need pictures of the candidates on the ballot" Jackson.

Everyone else here has stated the obvious: That George W. Bush has helped blacks (I don't use the manufactured term "African Americans" to describe myself -- I've never been to Africa) the same way he has helped all Americans. Period.

Get a copy of Education Secretary Rod Paige's (a member of the NAACP) commentary from the 7/15/04 Wall Street Journal titled "Naked Partisans". In part, he writes:

In particular, Mr. Bond and Mr. Mfume have done a great disservice to our organization, and to the founders of the civil-rights movement, with their hateful and untruthful rhetoric about Republicans and President Bush. How ironic that they would direct this vitriol at a president who has appointed more African Americans to high-profile posts, has committed more funds to fight AIDS in Africa, has championed minority homeownership, and has supported more trade and aid for African and Caribbean nations than any other administration.

He then goes on to discuss President Bush's education policies.

I wasn't aware that African-Americans needed their own personalized brand of government assistance. Maybe an offshoot of the Special Olympics is what this person is looking for? Special seats on the bus? Sheesh... I thought we'd been through this before...

I think the No Child Left Behind is ment to help blacks. Teachers can no longer "ignore" the black kids in the class room.

By not kowtowing further to the the liberal black leaders, he has given black americans the opportunity to stand on their own two feet a little more rather than leaning on the government for preferential treatment.

In my home, I am like the government. If I continue to provide the level of support, both financially and emotionally, to my 8 and 10 year olds as they grow older, they will never become self sufficient and learn how to become an adult and a properly functioning member of society.

Hear hear!

You can sum it up this way: "Condi Rice and Colin Powell are not there because they are black. They are there because they are the best. Do you want to go back to tokenism and the Democrat plantation? Or do you want black people who are real leaders?"
