Edwards' Brother Wanted on 1993 Warrant

DENVER - The younger brother of vice presidential candidate John Edwards (news - web sites) is wanted on a Colorado warrant issued a decade ago in a drunken driving case.

Wesley Blake Edwards, a 39-year-old electrician who lives in Fuquay-Varina, N.C., was arrested on Nov. 4, 1993, for allegedly driving under the influence, careless driving and driving without insurance, said Drew Grant, spokesman for the 18th Judicial District attorney's office.

A warrant was issued in early 1994, after he failed to appear in court in suburban Arapahoe County on the charges, Grant said Friday.

Attorneys for Edwards contacted the district attorney's office this week to resolve the issue, Grant said. He didn't know what would happen next, but said Edwards probably would have to make a court appearance.

Mark Kornblau, a spokesman for John Edwards, said the senator "has said that his brother knows what he did was wrong, and is dealing with it."

"Of course it's of concern. It's his brother. He loves him very much," Kornblau said.

The News and Observer of Raleigh, N.C., reported Friday that North Carolina records showed Wesley Edwards had multiple misdemeanor drunken driving convictions before permanently losing his driving privileges in 1990.

Edwards Brother IS A Wanted Man

Too bad Johns brother missed the opportunity to run for the Vice Presidency, only to leave it open for John.

John isn't wanted!

I wouldn't judge someone by their brother. Even Bush has a wayward brother.

Well, not to worry. His brother can get him off. Can't he... Oh forgot, brother was not injured or killed by the medical system. Sorry, bro, you are out of luck.

True, that is common baggage these days. Let's make sure no political strings are pulled to interfere with justice, though.

I wonder if being the brother of a vice-presidential candidate gets you secret service protection of any kind?

Folks should learn from the X42 administration that it matters not, the character of the brother/sister/wife/intern/girlfriend/lesbianlover, etc.

Have to agree with you here...Johnny's enough of a skunk that we don't have to drag his brother into it.

The only thing keeping me from running for vice-president is one of my brothers--LOL! (Let them figger out which one I mean!)

I absolutely agree that we can't be worried about one of John's brothers--JOHN"s the one I'm worried about!

Being double Johned at an executive level should be a concern.

Anything can happen, but being double Johned "ain't" going to happen to us come November.

Nowadays it doesn't.

I bet if a candidate quoted a phrase: "Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what the country can do for you" that they would be elected in a heartbeat.

Yes, Neil Bush is the weak family link. It happens.... LBJ's younger brother Sam Johnson was a neer-do-well also, his big brother keep him out of the news. The all time winner family embarrassment was good ol' Billy Carter. Anyone who could market their own brand-named beer, get fined for a taking a public whizz in D.C., and take a lobbyist job for the Libyan government all during their brother's presidency is a rare blossom indeed.

Edward's brother's sins don't compare with Billy Carter's, and this sounds like a Clinton press leak trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.

I wonder what kind of looney relatives Kerry has. Every president has a crazy/drunk relative- JFK had Teddy, Nixon had a bum brother, Jimmy had Billy (or was it the other way around?), Daddy Bush sired Neal, Bill had Roger, etc etc etc. Unless Kerry has killed off all his relatives there is bound to be some lunacy yet to be discovered.

Edwards was elected to the Senate and made it through the Democratic primary season without this ever coming to light. Why was his brother never caught before now?

I would go out on a limb and wager that if Kerry killed off all of his relatives, or didn't have any other than his Mother or Father, there would be lunacy found.

In fact,so do I!!!!!

hmmm. islamic practices seem to be creeping into our society at warp speed.

What do we have next on the list?, flogging people for alcohol use.

I have been always afraid of growing islamic influence. they don't have any positive trait or value to contribute to a society, but they can take us right back into the stone age at warp speed.

From The Charlotte News-Observer story:

Standing on his lawn in the Cottenwood subdivision Wednesday afternoon, Blake Edwards referred all questions to the Kerry-Edwards campaign headquarters. He did say that most of his neighbors didn't know he had a famous brother. "I'm trying to keep it quiet," he said. "I don't think that's going to happen."

If the Breck Girl was my brother I wouldn't go around telling people about it either.

Famous brother? How about Blake Edwards having a famous name? Isn't he married to Julie Andrews, and didn't he direct "10"? ;)
